ASSIGNMENT NO.

Zoha Khalid
S17BBAH090
The Self-Appraisal Problem

1. What action should Leroy take in response to Carol's and Janet's actions? Should Carol
be granted a raise even though she hadn't completed her self-evaluation?
According to the case Carol had made mistake so Leroy should take disciplinary action
against her. She took so much time but fail to submit self-appraisal despite several
reminders, Carol should have completed her self-appraisal on time. Janet and Carol must
have followed the company’s policies. Also, Janet should be held accountable for
submitting Carol’s Report. Carol should not be granted raise as it was her mistake.

2. Evaluate the firm's self-appraisal system. Should it be changed to make it more

effective? Is it too time consuming?
Supervisors are required to fill two forms First one is Responsibilities and Goal
Accomplishment self-evaluation report in which supervisors have to record their duties as
well as the objectives that they were able to achieve in the past year. Second one is
Career development self-evaluation report which is used for the training & development
purposes and supervisors have define their career-interest.

3. Should the firm eliminate the self-appraisal portion of its appraisal system?
In my opinion No, the firm should not eliminate the self-appraisal system, because
through this the employee of the firm can evaluate themselves. Pros of Self-appraisals

 Employee self-appraisals can function as a cheat sheet for the manager when

completing the overall performance evaluation form.
 This process puts ownership on the employee to recall and document the work he/she
has performed throughout the course of the year and highlight major accomplishments.

The self-appraisals should be made in an effective manner and easier to carry out.
