 COVID-19 Widened Educational Divide
• The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) Global
Education Monitoring (GEM) Report Team launched its 2020 Report on Inclusion and Education:

All Means All, assessing the progress towards the Sustainable Developments Goal 4 on
education and other SDG agendas related to education.

• The report estimates that around 40% of low and lower-middle income countries have not
provided any support to the disadvantaged students during the lockdown due to COVID-19
situations.

• The efforts made to continue the learning amid pandemic has worsened the exclusion and
around 91% of students across the globe are out of school in April 2020.

 Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport becomes the 1st
airport in India to get AWMS at both ends of the runway
• Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru(KIAB/ BLR Airport) becomes the 1st

airport in India to get an indigenously-developed Aviation Weather Monitoring
System (AWMS) at both ends of the runway. AWMS is installed by Bangalore
International Airport(BIAL). The technology is developed by Bengaluru-based CSIR-
National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL).

• In addition to AWMS, BIAL has also installed 4 Drishti Transmissometers to measure

the Runway Visibility Range (RVR). The Drishti Transmissometers is developed by
NAL, in association with the Indian Meteorological Department(IMD)

• With this, BAIL has installed 6 Made in India RVRs at both runways.

• Drishti transmissometers help pilots with accurate runway visual range

Tripura govt launches Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar Scheme

• Tripura government has launched Mukhyamantri Matru Pushti Uphaar scheme to

provide nutrition kits to pregnant and lactating women. The scheme is a part of the state’s efforts
to fight malnutrition and maternal mortality.

• The government expects to incur an expenses of about Rs 8 crore annually for this scheme.

• The scheme will be in addition to the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)under
which Rs 5000 each was given to 58,996 beneficiaries, after the birth of their first child.

• Nutrition kit- Each nutrition kit will cost Rs 500 & will have food items and grocery supplies, such
as peanuts, soya beans, mixed pulses, jaggery and ghee.

• Test– Pregnant women will be tested 4 times in nearby Primary Health Centers (PHC) and the kit
will be given after each test .Nutrition kit will be given after each test as per the Matru Pushti
Uphaar scheme.
• As per the revised guidelines 6 eggs per week and 20 gram jaggery & 200 Millilitersmmilk will be
provided six days every week.
 Andhra CM Launches YSR Kapu Nestham Scheme

• YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the Kapu Nestham scheme to provide financial support of Rs

75000/- for a period of 5 year (Rs 15000/- per annum) to women of Карu community. The objective of
the scheme is to financially empower Kapu women by enhancing their livelihood and living standards
with financial assistance.

• Women in the age group of 45-60 belonging to Kapu Community are benefited with this scheme.

• Permanent residents of Andhra Pradesh state can avail of the scheme benefits.

• The applicant must belong to the below poverty line, and income per month should be Rs 10000/-
and Rs 12000/- in rural and Urban areas.

• Applicants whose Family member is a Government employee or pensioner is not eligible to apply.

• No family member should pay income tax.

 Prime Minister Inaugurates ‘Aatma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar
Abhiyan’

• Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Yojana was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi
through video conferencing for migrant workers of Uttarpradesh

• This is the largest employment generating program in the country which provided
employment to about 1.25 crore people in Uttar Pradesh.
 NITI Aayog Launched Behaviour Change Campaign, ‘Navigating
the New Normal’ and Website

• In order to aware people about the norms to contain the spread of Covid-19 in
“Unlock” phase, NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog in
partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), Centre for Social and
Behavioural Change (CSBC) of Ashoka University, Ministry of Health and Family
Welfare (MoHFW), and Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) launched
the behaviour change campaign ‘Navigating the New Normal’ and its website

The campaign has two parts.

• The first is a web portal “http://www.covidthenewnormal.com/“containing resources

informed by behavioural science and the use of nudge and social norms theory,
related to Covid-safe behavioural norms during the ongoing Unlock phase.
• The second is a media campaign focused on the wearing of masks
 “Vivekananda Yoga University” World’s First Yoga University

• Muraleedharan, the Minister of State of External Affairs and P P Chaudhary,

Chairperson of the Standing Committee on External Affairs, jointly launched World’s
First Yoga University “Vivekananda Yoga University”(VaYU) in Los Angeles, United
States of America, over the virtual event at the Consulate General of India in New
York.

• The event was jointly hosted by Sandeep Chakravorty, Consulate General and the
founding director of VaYU, Prem Bhandari, the chairperson of Jaipur Foot USA.

• The first chairman of the VaYU is the Indian Yoga Guru, Dr. H R Nagendra, the
Chancellor of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (SVYASA), the first
Yoga University in India.

National Bank (SNB), India is at the 77th position in terms of money parked by its
citizens and enterprises with Swiss banks at the end of the year 2019,compared to
74th the previous year (i.e 2018). Indians account for only 0.06 % of the money
deposited by foreigners in Swiss banks.

• While, Britain holds the first place in this list with a share of 27 % of the total
deposits.

• The deposits of Indian citizens and companies in Swiss banks declined by 5.8 % to
899 million Swiss francs (Rs 6,625 crore) in 2019.

 Yes Bank Launches Digital Wallet Solution ‘Yuva Pay’
• Yes Bank launches a digital wallet solution(app)‘Yuva Pay’ in partnership with UDMA
Technologies Pvt Ltd to enable contactless payments for its customers. The wallet is

issued under minimum Know Your Client (KYC) regulations.

• The solution aims to help the low income group to access the digital and contactless
transactions, which will enable broad access to secure electronic payment services.

• 1st live programme of the solution will be implemented by the Rural Development &
Panchayat Raj Department, Karnataka, which will cover 158 gram panchayats with
238 villages.

• 2nd phase– The 2nd phase of the programme will be implemented in 6,200 gram
panchayats, which covers 12 million households across 29,000 villages.

Chanu to get Arjuna Award 2018 after IWF clears doping charges
• Indian Weightlifting Federation(IWLF) Secretary Sahdev Yadav informed that 2 time

Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, Weightlifter K. Sanjita Chanu will get
the Arjuna award for 2018.

• This comes after the International Weightlifting Federation(IWF) cleared her doping
charges.

• The award is given to her as per the Delhi High Court order in 2018, where the
selection committee was directed to consider her & keep the decision in a sealed
cover until she was acquitted of the doping charges.
 IRDAI Forms 9-Member Working Group Headed by Anjan Dey to
Look Into Drone Insurance

• India’s insurance regulator, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of
India (IRDAI) has formulated a 9-member working group(WG) headed by Anjan
Dey, general manager of the New India Assurance, to suggest insurance products
covering various risks involved in the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft
System(RPAS)/ Drones.

• The panel shall need to submit its report within six weeks.
 NGT Forms Committee Headed by Justice BP Katakey to
investigate Assam Gas Leak

• The National Green Tribunal (NGT) formed a high level committee headed by Justice
BP Katakey, former High Court judge of Gauhati, to investigate the blowout at
Assam’s Baghjan oil well of Oil India Limited(OIL) on 27th May 2020.

• The 8 member committee headed by justice Katakey will look into the 13 points
listed by NGT and submit the report within 30 days.

• The NGT has imposed a fine of Rs.25 crore on OIL for the damages caused due to
the fire.
 National Statistics Day 2020 - June 29

• India celebrates June 29th as the National Statistics Day to recognise the contribution of

statistics in daily life and to educate the general public on the importance of statistics in
socio-economic planning and policy formulation. The first National Statistics Day was
celebrated on 29th June 2007.

• The theme of 2020 National Statistics Day is "SDG- 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-
being for all at all ages) & SDG-5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and
girls)".

• June 29th is chosen to celebrate the National Statistics Day to commemorate the birth
anniversary of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, who established the National Statistical
System, founder of Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and contributed to the field of economic
planning and statistical development of India.
