Jesus Institutes
the Most Holy Eucharist
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
The Institution Narrative according to St. Mark
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it,
and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink
from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be
shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.
Reflection
We are the Body of Christ, we who partake of the Living Flesh of the
Lamb are destined to be broken and given. This Mystical Supper calls
us to be the living and breathing presence of the Lord in our world
today. Just as ordinary bread is transformed into the Body and Blood
of Christ, so are we. We are broken and given that others may partake
and dine at this great heavenly Banquet, that others may experience
the joy of life when they encounter us.We are called to bring the
peace of which the Lamb of God grants, to our families and friends,
just as we have been granted by sharing in this meal. By being broken,
by being given, are we made anew. By being emptied and poured out
are we returned to our true selves.

O God, who have called us to participate in this most Mystical Supper, in which
your Only Begotten Son,when about to hand himself over to death, gave to
your people a way of love in the breaking of the bread and the pouring of wine.
Grant, we pray, that we may follow in your Son's brokenness and emptiness.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on us!

The Second Station
Jesus Agonises in
the garden of Gethsemane
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Matthew
Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said
to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” Then he said
to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death.Remain here and keep
watch with me.” He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer,
saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet, not
as I will, but as you will.” When he returned to his disciples he found
them asleep. He said to Peter, “So you could not keep watch with me
for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The
spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Reflection
Jesus here is now confronted with the reality of being broken, given,
poured and emptied. He afterall is human, like us, he is afraid. He
throws himself in prayer for even if his friends are abandoning him
slowly by dozing off, our Heavenly Father remains with him. It is
Him who remains and keep watches with Jesus while he is sorrowful
even to death. Even if our whole family, our friends leave us, we are
never alone, God remains. It is his guidance and providence that
enables us to courageously drink of the cup of brokeness. He walks
with us, assuring us that he will help us in his mysterious ways in the
Calvary we must journey.

Prayer
Lord, grant us your strength and wisdom, that we may seek to follow
your will in all things

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on us!
The THIRD Station
Jesus IS CONDEMNED
TO DEATH
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Luke
But all together they shouted out, “Away with this man! Release
Barabbas to us.” (Now Barabbas had been imprisoned for a rebellion
that had taken place in the city and for murder.)  Again Pilate
addressed them, still wishing to release Jesus,  but they continued their
shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” Pilate addressed them a third
time, “What evil has this man done? I found him guilty of no capital
crime. Therefore I shall have him scourged and then release him.”
With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his
crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. The verdict of Pilate was that
their demand should be granted.

Reflection
The world will always be unkind to us, it will crucify us. The world
will always want to kill and devour those who are trying to be good,
to be their true selves, the persons God ought them to be. Jesus now
drinks the cup He had feared of in the Garden. The crowd's cries of
hate only add to the bitterness of this cup. Jesus reminds us to anchor
our hearts to His Father, to trust in Him. For when the whole world
wants us dead, God assists us to never give up, to continue drinking of
this cup. For when we drink of this bitter cup, we quench others with
sweetness. For when we continue to drink of this bitter cup, the
sweeter our reward will be.

Prayer
Lord, grant us discernment that we may see as you see, not as the
world sees.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Fourth Station
Jesus IS SCOURGED AND
CROWNED WITH THORNS
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Mark
So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas to them and,
after he had Jesus scourged, handed him over to be crucified.
The soldiers led him away inside the palace, that is, the praetorium,
and assembled the whole cohort.  They clothed him in purple and,
weaving a crown of thorns, placed it on him. They began to salute
him with, “Hail, King of the Jews!”  and kept striking his head with a
reed and spitting upon him. They knelt before him in homage. and
when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak,
dressed him in his own clothes, and led him out to crucify him.
Reflection
The ways of the world, are different from the ways of God.
Sometimes the needs and wants we desire are given to us by God but
in a wrapping we do not recognise, a form we had not imagined it
would be, but it is there. The Jews have longed for their mighty
liberator, their king, but it did not come in the imagined arrayed
crown and majestic fabric, it came with crown of thorns and fabric of
blood. Our Lord encourages us here to be open, to trust in how he
will help and work our lives to the resurrection we all aspire. Who
knows the events in our lives covered in thorns and wounds may be
the events which will liberate and deliver us from the darkness where
we dwell.

Prayer
Lord, grant us patience in times of suffering that we may offer our lives
as a sacrifice of praise.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Fifth Station
Jesus ACCEPTS AND
CARRIES HIS CROSS
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to John
So they took Jesus,  and carrying the cross himself he went out to
what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha.

Reflection
No matter how much we avoid the cross and even despise the crosses
we have to bear in this life, it is our human condition to carry it. Our
God even carried His even if he didn't have to, he draws us to this
path of suffering and hardships, the way of the cross. He knows this
path is inevitable so he shows us how we can make this inescapable
path no longer a way of suffering and punishment but a way of
sacrifice, joy and peace. He tells us to carry it through love, with love
and in love. Love empties our selfishness and opens our selflessness. It
is love that eases the burden of the cross, for to be in love we forget
and deny ourselves, in love we constantly think of the other, to
perpetually will the good of the other.

Prayer
Lord, grant us strength of purpose that we may faithfully bear our
crosses each day.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The sixth Station
Jesus Falls under the
weight of the Cross
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
To all my foes I am a thing of scorn,
and especially to my neighbors
a horror to my friends.
When they see me in public,
they quickly shy away.
 I am forgotten, out of mind like the dead;
I am like a worn-out tool

Reflection
Our great God became human to show us that it's natural to fall, to
trip, to get tired of this inescapable path every human must undergo.
This way of the cross will never be smooth and straight, it is rocky
and steep. It is natural for us to feel like giving up, breaking down and
to drown in tears and our Lord tells us it's okay, He is with us in this
darkness and pain. Yet our Lord shows us that in every step we trip
and fall, we must take a step to rise and go forward, The only way to
an empty tomb is forward. Our Lord encourages us to push through
even if it is hard yet he allows to take time, to move at our own pace.
We may want to give up, to drown in our falling but our Good Lord
assures us he is with us in this and he will be with us in our rising.

Prayer
From morning to night you make an end of me; I cry out even until
the dawn. Like a lion he breaks all my bone from morning to night
you make an end of me.Like a swallow I chirp;  I moan like a dove.
My eyes grow weary looking heavenward: Lord, I am overwhelmed;
go security for me!

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The seventh Station
Jesus IS HELPED BY
SIMON OF CYRENE
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Mark
They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, who was
coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to
carry his cross.

Reflection
Simon never planned to carry the cross, he was just forced to carry it
for he was just pulled from the crowd. It may have even interrupted
from doing what he had originally planned. Suffering, being broken
are things we never plan on doing. We are Simons who are suddenly
out of nowhere pulled from our comfort to carry such a burden, not
knowing what to do, and even unable to do anything to get out of
such torment. He must've been furious that his plans for that day were
ruined. He now sees a man grotesquely drowned in blood. This man
calls him to move from focusing on himself and focusing now on
others, to now focus on Him. He calls him to forget himself and to
not worry, for Simon won't be alone in carrying this burden. We who
never planned on walking this path are now called to not worry for
we will never be alone in carrying our crosses, Jesus is with us, beside
us, walking with us to the very end.

Prayer
O Jesus, by your love we have been brought together: may we love
you and revere you and in love respect each other with sincere hearts.
Where true Charity is dwelling, God is there.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Eighth Station
Jesus consoles the
weeping DAUGHTERS of jerusalem
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Luke
Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep
for me; weep instead for yourselves and for your children, for indeed,
the days are coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the
wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’  At that
time people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall upon us!’ and to the hills,
‘Cover us!’ for if these things are done when the wood is green what
will happen when it is dry?”

Reflection
A greater horror than walking the way of the cross is walking it
without love. A horror deserving of such weeping, It is a horror that
makes ones life barren and empty, living life centred on oneself. It is a
life full of darkness, a life that refuses to change,  a life that refuses to
be giving and vulnerable, a life closed off to anyone, It is a life that
makes one desire for the mountains and hills to cover them that they
may no longer hear the voice of others and to dwell in their
selfishness. It is a trap giving the illusion of being free when in fact it is
a prison that locks one in oneself. For if suffering happens in the
greeness and lushness of love, what greater suffering it is when one is
dry of it.

Prayer
Behold, I was born in guilt, in sin my mother conceived me.Cleanse
me with hyssop, that I may be pure; wash me, and I will be whiter
than snow

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Ninth Station
Jesus is Stripped and
is crucified to the cross
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Luke
When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him and
the criminals there, one on his right, the other on his left. Then Jesus
said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”They
divided his garments by casting lots. The people stood by and
watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, “He saved
others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of
God.” Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him
wine they called out, “If you are King of the Jews, save
yourself.”  Above him there was an inscription that read, “This is the
King of the Jews.”

Reflection
What is love exactly? It is a crucifixion in which we are made to
empty and strip ourselves completely of our selfishness only to be
unified with hardships and pain by being nailed to a cross. It is loathed
by those empty of it, telling us to save ourselves from an excruciating
act. The act of loving goes through thick and thin, destroying borders,
enduring all of it with great patience and perseverance. We can only
love others greatly if we have recognised the greater love working in
our life. It is this greater love, our first love, that pushes us to love
even if those people we want to love know not what they do. A love
that loves even if that person does not love you back. A love that loves
the seemingly unlovable. We are only capable of a great loving if our
love is rooted from an even greater love.

O good Cross, made beautiful by the body of the Lord: Receive me

from among men and restore me to my Master, so that he, who, in
dying through you redeemed me, may receive me."

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Eleventh Station
Jesus Forgives
the Repentant Thief
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Luke
Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are
you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.”  The other, however,
rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are
subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been
condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our
crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus,
remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to
him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

We are sinners, we cannot deny the fact of being covered with the
filth and ugliness of sin. Despite this condition, we have the innate
desire to be free from this filth, we are all possible of being clean that
our true selves can be revealed. It is Christ alone that liberates us from
this filth, that will provide us this paradise. We must trust in the
eternal and ever giving love Christ for us that even if we have been
drowning in unspeakable garbage or carelessly go back and jump into
the mudpit, he will always welcome us with open arms. Let us ask him
to remember us, that he may teach us to trust in his liberating love.
For once we no longer trust or even have faith in this love, we would
live life in such a sad and bleak way, one that only seeks to save
oneself.

Merciful Shepherd, remember me and keep me in your love.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The Eleventh Station
Jesus Entrusts his
sorrowful Mother to John
V: We Adore you, O Christ, and we bless you.
R: Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.

Scripture
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to John
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister,
Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala.  When Jesus saw his
mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother,
“Woman, behold, your son.”  Then he said to the disciple, “Behold,
your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

the Beloved Disciple for sure would not know what to do at this
point, standing next to the person he believed to be so great and
mighty is now crucified and vulnerable. He may already be confused
on how on a span of just days, the people who proclaimed Him as
their deliverer are the same people who crucified him, Yet Jesus gives
him, gives us a guide and model to find peace in times of despair,
sorrow and confusion, His Mother. Mary now leads us to a seemingly
peculiar way of dealing with times like this, stay. Don't leave like the
other disciples, it would be of greater benefit to stay and find God in
the darkest hours of our lives. God must not only be present in the
easy parts of life, we must let God be part of our darkness too, for he
will be the sole person to navigate us in this darkness. We will never
find our end goal if we stray away from Jesus. We can only find the
empty tomb and enjoy it to the fullest if we have gone through the
pains it took to reach that, Mary stays and gazes upon his Son and so
must we.

Word Incarnate, teach me to stay at the foot of the cross,

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!

Jesus Dies on
the cross for our sins
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to Mark
At noon darkness came over the whole land until three in the
afternoon. And at three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi,
Eloi, lema sabachthani?”* which is translated, “My God, my God, why
have you forsaken me?” Some of the bystanders who heard it said,
“Look, he is calling Elijah.” One of them ran, soaked a sponge with
wine, put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let
us see if Elijah comes to take him down.” Jesus gave a loud cry and
breathed his last. The veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to
bottom. When the centurion who stood facing him saw how he
breathed his last he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”

"My God, My God why have you abandoned me?" Jesus recalls the
first lines of the twenty-second psalm. In this psalm, these words were
uttered by the author out of fear for his world was crumbling down in
his very eyes. We ourselves maybe experiencing seeing our worlds
crumble, as if God took a nap and forgot the world for a moment. It is
in this darkness, in this death, that we find God in his purest form, that
all veils hiding him are now torn. Silence was God's answer to the
author, to His Son and now to us. For it was first in silence God first
dwelled, it was in silence he revealed his plan to the prophets it is in
silence he moves in our lives and it is in this same silence he shows
how much he loves us. Love doesn't need screaming voices and
thundering drums to show that it is love.

Save us, O Savior of the world. On the cross you redeemed us by the
shedding of your blood; we cry out for your help, O God. Kyrie
Eleison.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
The thirteenth Station
Jesus is laid in the
sepulchre
from the Passion of our Redeemer according to John
After this, Joseph of Arimathea, secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the
Jews, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. And Pilate
permitted it. So he came and took his body. Nicodemus, the one who had
first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes
weighing about one hundred pounds. They took the body of Jesus and
bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish
burial custom. Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a
garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been
buried. So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for
the tomb was close by.

Just as a seed is buried in darkness by soil to produce new life so is our

Lord buried in the darkness of death to give new life to the world.
Jesus is buried in the very same place where he is to rise from death.
The tomb, a place of mourning and weeping became the place of
victory and glory. Yet for us to arrive in this triumph we must first
experience the darkness and coldness of the tomb. In our lives this
tomb could be anything that radiates this darkness. This darkness
should renews us if we embrace it and not escape it, that it may make
our self serving ways to decompose and fade. The only way our tombs
could be empty tombs is if we empty ourselves of all selfish and
unloving pursuits. We must accept this darkness with Christ for it is in
our emptying during this darkness that Christ finds a place to bury
himself, to resurrect so that He may live in us. It is up to us if we
would make our tombs to be a sign of defeat or a monument of
victory.
Loving God, may in the morning let me know your love for I put my trust in
you. Make me know the way I should walk: to you I lift up my soul.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on us!
The Fourteenth Station
Jesus Rises FROM
DEATH
The Resurrection of our Lord according to Mark
When he had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first
to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.  She
went and told his companions who were mourning and
weeping.  When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by
her, they did not believe.

To love is a to be broken and given, to love is to carry a heavy weight,

to love is to be crucified, to love is an excruciating death, to love is to
go through darkness, simply to love is hard. If the Way of the Cross
ended on the Burial of Christ, we would find loving to be a
disheartening act but Christ now shows why it is all worth it. Yet the
worth of His sacrifice is not His rising in glory just as the worth of our
loving is not about us, it will never be about us. The worth of Christ's
love on the Cross is not His Resurrection it is the freedom from death
we have gained. The worth of our sacrifices out of love will always be
the good our love has caused on the people we love and it is this good,
that will bring us a joy the world can never give and surpass. This way
of love will never be easy, it will always be filled with pain but Jesus
assures us of the worth of our travelling this way, the joy of loving and
of being loved. It is in this joy and hope of the Resurrection we cling
to that our Calvary slowly becomes a piece of heaven.

May the sanctifying power of your Resurrection, dispel wickedness,

wash our faults away, restore innocence to the fallen, and joy to the
mourners, drive out hatred, foster unity, and bring down the mighty.

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, Have mercy on
us!
