This week, as a nation and state we await the verdict in the State vs. Derek Chauvin trial. This is a significant current
event, and as jury deliberations begin tensions are visibly high. When a verdict is rendered, our students will be
experiencing a wide range of emotions and together we stand ready to support their needs.

Our mission as a district is to ensure the success of each and every student-- personally, socially, academically and
civically. As educators, it is our responsibility to support and uplift students through significant events such as this
trial. No matter the verdict, to help you plan and respond to student needs, please review this staff resource page
compiled by our Equity Services and Student Services departments: Responding to Racism, Violence and Traumatic
Events. As you navigate conversations in your classrooms and school communities, the resources here will help
prepare you to guide students to practice empathy and respect for each others’ experiences, and show one another
kindness and care as they reflect and process their emotions related to this trial.

To help create safe and welcoming classrooms for all students who may be experiencing a wide range of emotions
around this verdict, we do ask that staff refrain from streaming the trial in classrooms for the well being of our
students at this time.

Additionally, if there are other resources or supports that you may need, or if there are resources that you’d like to
share with us that have served you well, please fill out this Google form, which is checked regularly by our Student
Services and Equity Services staff.

Thank you for all you do to support our students.

With gratitude,
