PRESENT CONTINUOUS: FUTURE ARRANGEMENTS

Arrangement: a decided plan
I’m meeting my friends tomorrow at 7:00 pm in front of the cinema
For using the present continuous to express a future decided plan, we need:
1. Other people involved in the action: my friends
2. A time decided: tomorrow at 7 pm
3. A place decided: in front of the cinema
I’m having a meal with my boss next Friday at 3 pm in “Wok” = future
I’m having a meal now with my boos at my house = at the moment of speaking
We’re travelling next Sunday to San Andrés = time and place decided
FORM: verb to be ( am / is / are + verb -ing )
Question form : Are you meeting your friends next Saturday ? = present continuous with a
future reference = decided plan
What’s the difference between going to and the present continuous in future?
GOING TO: I’m going to travel to the USA -expresses a plan or a future intention, but not
arrangements or decided place, or time
PRESENT CONTINUOUS: I’m travelling to the USA next month with my family -it’s showing a
decided = the time and place are already arranged or decided.
