SLUG: DENISE BROWN TESTIMONIES

During O.J. Simpson’s murder trial, Denise Brown yesterday gave an emotional account
of her former brother-in-law lifting up her sister, Nicole, throwing her against the wall and then
out of the house in the late ‘80s.

Brown recalled how Simpson erupted in anger after she, her sister, and friends returned h
ome from the La Cantina restaurant in Los Angeles, and Brown had told Simpson that “he took
Nicole for granted.”

Struggling to suppress her sobs, Brown continued, “He started yelling at me ‘I’ll take her
for granted, I do everything for her. I gave her everything.’ And then a whole fight broke out.
Pictures started flying off the walls; clothes started flying down the stairs. And [he] grabbed
Nicole [and] told her to get out of the house.

“He picked her up, threw against a wall, picked her up, threw against a wall, picked her
up, threw out of the house,” Brown added, “She ended up falling on her elbows and butt.”

Brown also recounted another night when she, the Simpsons, and another friend were in a
crowded nightclub, all of them drinking heavily.

“And at one point, O.J. grabbed Nicole’s crotch and said, ‘This is where babies come
from. And this belongs to me,’” Brown testified, calling Simpson’s words humiliating.

When asked about how her younger sister reacted, Brown said, “She just wrote it off and
shrugged her shoulders - like it was nothing, like she was used to that kind of treatment.”

Brown began her testimony by recalling how she met Simpson during a trip to Buffalo to
watch a football game in 1977 when Simpson played for the Buffalo Bills, a professional football
team. She portrayed Simpson as a bad-tempered, obsessive and jealous person in the early days
of the relationship with Nicole Brown.
During the game, Simpson “started screaming at Nicole” after Nicole kissed both
Simpson and his friend’s cheeks, Brown said.

Judge Lance A. Ito interrupted Brown’s testimony after conferring with defense lawyers
and quickly switched to relevant questions to avoid more sentiments against Simpson’s affable
public image.

When Brown began wiping her tears, the deputy district attorney Christopher A. Darden
asked to stop the proceedings and have a respite from the court.

Brown will retake the stand in court on Monday.
