Introduction

This article presents an overview of occupational safety and health (OSH) training. It will differentiate between
terms such as qualification, instructions, empowerment and training. The responsibilities of the employers will
be described along with the legal requirements and the importance of OSH training. Syllabus development and
various trainings methods will be explained. Finally, there is a discussion of the assessment methods, and the
impact of the different types will be compared, showing that self-directed practice oriented learning yields the
best results. A few good practice cases will be presented.
