Ostendorf-HT pipes and fittings with insert muffs are delivered ready-to-install with built-in
rubber seals.
Ostendorf-HT pipes and fittings are bundled and packed in boxes respectively. To prevent
damage to the boxes, they must be protected against moisture. Ostendorf-HT pipes must be
appropriately stored in order to prevent deformation to the insert muffs and excessive
contamination by dust and dirt. When stacking, the socket muffs must be free of loads.
Technical changes may occur without notice.

1. Please note!

The following working and installation instructions are valid for the correct installation of waste
water lines in property waste water systems, in accordance with DIN 1986 and DIN EN 12056. It
contains the pipe range in accordance with DIN EN 1451. These pipes, fittings and sealing ele-
ments are appropriate for carrying off waste water with respect to DIN 1986, Part 3, within a range
of pH 2 to pH 12. They may not be used for lines in earth. Only approved pipes, fittings and sealing
elements may be used. The basis for the area of application is DIN 1986, Part 4. Pipes and fittings
made of polypropylene may be used inside buildings for waste water lines, rain water lines and ven-
tilation pipes. For Ostendorf HT-PP pipes and fittings there are no limitations with respect to tem-
perature loading from home waste water. The pipes and fittings are colored as follows: PP in accor-
dance with DIN EN 1451 and DIN 19560: dust grey. Because of varying flammability property,
pipes and fittings made of PP are designated with „DIN 4102 B 1“ in red writing (not easily inflamma-
ble), in accordance with DIN EN 1451.

2. Pipe Laying
For installation work of the herein described waste water systems for buildings and property,
only companies who have qualified and trained personnel should be contracted.
2.1 Transport and Storage
Unpalletized pipes should be laid completely flat along their entire length during transport.
Heavy shocks, especially in freezing temperatures, must be avoided. For loading and
unloading, wide canvas lifting harnesses must be used. Pipes and fittings may be stored freely,
pre-installed sealing elements should not be stored longer than three years. The following
points must be observed whenever storing pipes:
a) Pipes must be stored in a stable position and so that no deformation or bending can
take place.
b) The pipe muffs must be free, both in the vertical and horizontal directions.
c) A stacking height of 1.5 meters should not be exceeded.

3
PP Range of High-Temperature Discharge Pipes
with inlaid seal
2.2 Cutting to Length and Beveling
Cutting pipes to length is done by using a pipe cutter or a fine toothed saw. The cut edges
must be deburred. The pipe end is then beveled with a beveling tool or by using a coarse file at
an angle of approximately 15°. Unit in mm
Fittings may not be cut.

* DN = Nominal Diameters

2.3 Connecting Pipes and Fittings

a) Clean the pipe spigot end and clean the muff.
b) Check the condition and quality of the factory pre-installed sealing element.
c) Apply factory supplied lubricant lightly and evenly on the beveled surface only of the spigot
end.
When inserting, the ring seal must be free of lubicant. Center up the spigot end of the pipe and
push until the pipe end reches the end of the muff.
d) Length changes between pipes and fittings as well as between pipes within the spigot and
muff connection are possible. It is required that the pipe be pulled back a maximum of 10 mm.
For HT pipes, that means a maximum length of 2 meters. The spigot ends of fittings may
remain fully pushed into the socket muff. Pipes must be secured with pipe clamps to prevent
slippage during subsequent installation work. This is done after taking into account the
necessary measures concerning length changes.

3. Laying Pipe Lines

3.1 Pipe Clamps
In general, plastic waster water piping systems must be installed so that they are not under
mechanical stresses and are allowed to undergo natural length changes. As a rule, securing
pipes is done with pipe clamps that have an inner lining and that are appropriate for the given
outside diameter and which completely circumvent the pipe. If no inner lining is used inside the
clamp, then the inside edge of the clamp must be rounded off and the inside surface must be
smooth. Only an inner lining that is recommended by the pipe manufacturer can be used. Inner
linings made of PVC or pipe hooks may not be used!

3.1.1 Fixed Clamps

Fixeds point are achieved by completely tightening the pipe clamps in a piping system. They
must be positioned so that each pipe length is prevented from slipping. The fixed clamps must
be positioned directy behind the muff for pipe with socket muffs. Fittings or groups of fittings
must always be laid out as fixed points.

4
PP Range of High-Temperature Discharge Pipes
with inlaid seal
3.1.2 Loose Clamps
Pipe clamps which are not completely tightened (loose clamps) must allow unimpaired
longitudinal movement of the pipeline after installation. For this reason the inside diameter of
the clamp must be slightly bigger than the outside diameter of the pipe when installed.

3.2 Distance between Pipe Clamps

Refer to the table for the recommended distance between clamps.
3.3 Laying Pipe Lines in Masonry Structures
Slots in masonry must be made to allow stress and tension free pipe installation. If the pipes
must be embedded in mortar without using mortar carriers or ecnclosures, then the pipes and
fittings must be completely wrapped with flexible material such as cardboard, mineral or glass
wool. At areas where high temperatures can occur, appropriate measures must be taken to
protect the pipes (insulation of heat carrying lines, i.e. heating lines). In addition, the ZVSHK
guidlines "Vorwandinstallation" and the ZVSHK instruction manual "Entwsserungsleitungen" or
other local applicable building codes and guidelines must be referred to. Horizontally laid
pipelines (connecting lines or collecting lines) which for example serve as a connection for
multiple wall fixture elements should have a wrapping along the entire length. Linear expansion
of the pipes and fittings must not be hindered.

3.4 Pipe Installation in Ceilings and Floors

Laying pipes in ceilings must be done so that they are moisture proof and sound proof. The
appropriate wrapping material must be used. In case of floors using poured asphalt, the
pipeline parts must be protected by using protective pipes or by wrapping with heat insulating
materials. If fire protection measures are required in ceilings or floors, then Section 5 must be
referred to.

3.5 Installing Pipe Systems in Concrete

House waste water pipes and fittings may be embedded in concrete. Length changes of the
pipes from thermal expansion must be considered as previously described. The parts of the
pipe system must be fastened so that movement and expansion is prevented during concrete
pouring. To prevent penetration of concrete fluid into the muffs, an adhesive tape strip must be
used to seal the muff joint. All pipe openings must be closed off.

3.6 Hook-up to Pipes made of Other Materials

To connect HT-plastic pipes to other pipe system parts made of some other material, the
appropriate fittings and sealing materials from the manufacturer must be used.

5
PP Range of High-Temperature Discharge Pipes
with inlaid seal
3.7 Subsequent Connection of Pipes and Fittings
If a hook-up connection must be to done to an existing line, then fittings and components made
by the manufacturer must be used.
a) When using double socket muffs connectors, a sufficiently long pipe length (length of the
fitting 2d) is cut out, the ends of the pipes are then beveled and the branch connector is then
installed. The remaining space in the line is closed off by inserting an appropriately long pipe
length and two double socket muff connectors.
b) If long muffs are used, then a length of pipe that equals the length of the fitting plus the
insert depth is cut out. The long muff is then inserted all the way to the end and the fitting is
installed by using a double socket muff connector. Afterwards, the spigot end of the long muff
is inserted in the other muff end of the fitting.

3.8 Preparing and Using Pipes with Straight Ends and Leftover Pieces
Cutting, using and preparing leftover pieces (pipes with straight ends) can be done by using
double muffs, double socket muff connectors and insert muffs. When using these connectors,
a maximum length of 2 meters should not be exceeded when laying pipes with straight ends.
The must be laid in accordance to the local applicable codes and regulations and must assure
compensation for expansion (see linear expansion).
Installation requirement when using:
The distance intervals for pipe clamps for horizontal pipe installations are prescribed.

4. Sound Proofing Measures

Drainage systems must be planned and installed according to DIN 4109 as well as the
supplementary state codes with respect to DIN 4109. If for outside rooms which need
protection in accordance with DIN 4109 (bedrooms etc.), the building codes concerning "sound
protection in buildings" must be observed and if the sound emission from the installed lines
must not exceed 35 dB(A) (sound pressure level), then the regulations stated in the building
codes for all individual household systems must be considered.Waste water lines may not be
installed in the open in rooms where protection is required. For massive walls which border on
rooms that require protection, waste water lines may be installed only when the walls have a
mass of at least 220 kg / m2. This also applies for fastening onto the remaining wall thickness
after slots have been cut out in walls that border on waiting rooms. For light weight walls
separating protection required rooms, the suitability of the walls must be checked by the wall
manufacturer. For reducing sound transmission, screw pipe clamps with rubber inlays that are
fastened to the wall with plastic anchors and screws must be used. Further recommendations
concerning reducing sound transmission may be found in DIN 1986, Part 1 and DIN 4109
Supplement 2.

6
PP Range of High-Temperature Discharge Pipes

5. Fire Protection Measures.
If pipe lines are installed through walls or ceilings, then requirements with respect to fire
resistance that are in accordance with the applicable local building codes and regulations
(state building codes and requirements) must be fully observed. For installation in Germany,
the regulations of the "Richtlinien für die Verwendung brennbarer Baustoffe im Hochbau" in
connection with local state building codes and the rules of DIN 4102, Section 11 are valid as
well. The combustion properties of the herein described material are in accordance to the
building classification DIN 4102 B1 (very low inflammability). For example, the installation
requirements for the state building codes of North Rhine Westphalia are outlined: the following
described applications refer to walls and ceilings for which an F90 AB fire resistance time is
required "a transmission of fire and smoke is - without which special proof is needed - not to be
expected for installation of lines made of pipes of B1 or B2 building material (in accordance
with DIN 4102) through walls when the pipe line of total length of 4 meters, and in any case not
less than 1 meter, is enclosed or covered by a mineral mortar = to 15 mm thick on non-
combustible mortar mesh or by an equivalent enclosure of inflammable building material."
Pipelines that branch off and are not installed in ceilings or walls do not require any enclosure.

6. Norms and Regulations

In Germany, the following norms and regulations must be observed whenever using and
installing waste water pipes made of plastics for waste water removal from buildings:
DIN 1986 Section 1 of Waste Water Systems for Buildings and Property; technical
requirements for Building Sectionn 2-; Determining the nominal sizes of Waste Water and
Ventilation Lines. Amendment 1-; Example Calculation Section 3; - Rules for Operation and

What does "resistant to chemicals" mean?

Plastics do not rust

That sounds like a slogan, but it is demonstrably true: thanks to their chemical structure,
plastics are capable of resisting the effects of the atmosphere, of water and many other
chemicals which corrode metals. For this reason they are frequently employed as a
corrosion protectyon coating for metals.

The sentence "plastics have a high chemical resistance" is accurate, but is too much of a
generalization. The standards, therefore, talk of a high capability for resisting chemicals.
The complexity of this area is shown by the long lists issued by the producers of raw
materials, specifying the behaviour of each of their plastics with regard to a large number of
chemicals. These tables, of course, can only supply initial general indications. This is
expressly pointed out in the DIN standards relating to chemical resistance capability
(e.g. DIN 8078).

Although certain common features are applicable to the various groups of plastice - e.g.
most thermoplastics have a high resistance to acids and alkalies - each individual plastic
has its own distinct chemical characteristics. Closely related plastics can react to the same
chemical substance in completely different ways, indeed the same plastic can behave in
quite different ways with regard to the same chemical substance at different temperatures
or different degrees of concentration. Additives can also have an effect on the behaviour of
the plastic with regard to
chemicals: e.g. plasticizers, stabilizers, colouring pigments etc. with which plastics are
modified for particular areas of application.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene (PP)
Polypropylene is related to polyethylene, and is also produced by the polymerization of
ethylene, using the low-pressure process. The structural formula of polypropylene differs
from that of polyethylene in that on every second carbon atom of the chain molecule a
hydrogen atom is replaced by a CH3 group. These CH3 groups may either be arranged on
both sides of the carbon atom (atactic)
CH3 CH3

CH2 — CH — CH2 – CH — CH2 — CH — ...

CH3

or all the groups can be on only one side (isotactic). Commercial polypropylenes are exclu-
sively isotactic.

Its formula:
CH2 — CH — CH2 – CH — CH2 — CH — CH2 — CH—...

CH3 CH3 CH3 CH3

Isotactic polypropylene is highly crystalline - the evenly constructed chains can be easily
arranged. This gives it a high resistance to heat (up to 110°C over short periods), plus high
mechanical strength, good tear resistance, surface hardness, tensile strength and good
recovery behaviour. Its excellent electrical insulation properties correspond to those of
polyethylene, while its chemical resistance, as with all polyolefins, is good.

Polypropylene (PP), permanent low inflammability

For its range of high-temperature pipes Ostendorf uses a special type of polypropylene
which has been equipped with a permanent flame-retardant finish. With this additional
basic property of the polypropylene material, our high-temperature pipes are classified as
building materials of low inflammability (class B1).

This is monitored by our own inspections and by the State Materials Testing Office (MPA),
Darmstadt
