ProWein 2011: Israeli-German Twin Wineries initiative thriving

Leipzig, 16 March, 2011. Twin

Wineries, an initiative supporting the
intercultural dialogue between
Germany and Israel, will celebrate its
third anniversary at the ProWein
2011 wine trade fair. During the twin
wine tasting hosted at the Israeli
Pavilion (Hall 6 Stand H21), premium
wines of the 14 participating
winemakers will be sampled. A
special highlight will be the unveiling
of a new set of twins, to be
presented by the Twin Wineries
initiators.

When the Twin Wineries initiative was

established in 2007, its initiators, the Heymann-Löwenstein Wine Estate
and the Israeli wine exporting company Zag Wines, envisioned an
intensive cultural exchange on the topic of viticulture. Along with
reciprocal visits and the exchange of employees and students, the
founders also planned annual meetings at the ProWein wine trade fair in
Düsseldorf to advance the partnership and promote collaboration.

The partnership initiative was first announced to the public at ProWein

2008. Since then, each year, Twin Wineries has been hosting twin wine
tastings, presenting their top products and sharing updates on
developments in their wine estates. An important aim of the initiative is to
increase German wine popularity in Israel and vice versa.

Israeli wines have been experiencing a real boom in recent years,

receiving national and international accolades; in the last 3 years, a
number of Israeli wines have earned ratings of over 90 Parker Points. The
outstanding quality of Israeli wines and the unique wine tasting
atmosphere have made the Twin Wineries a central attraction at ProWein.

This year, the Israeli wine industry has been crowned with a very special
honor. Reinhard Löwenstein, whose German winery, Heymann-Löwenstein,
twins with Israel’s Margalit Winery, proudly announced: ”The magazine
Der Feinschmecker has nominated Yair Margalit as a finalist for
Winemaker of the Year 2011.” Löwenstein continued: ”Since the winner
will be announced the night before ProWein opens, we may be able to
introduce a new set of twins and perhaps even the Winemaker of the Year
2011.”
The Twin Wineries joint tasting at ProWein takes place at the Israeli
Pavilion (Hall 6, Stand H21) on Sunday, 27 March, 2011 at 10:15 am.

To date, the following seven sets of twins are set to participate:
