Packaging is the main source of polluting plastic waste. Of the total volume of

plastic waste in the world, most of it corresponds to food packaging. The movies

Biodegradable have been used in numerous applications with different aspects due to the

versatility of its properties and environmental factors. Interest has increased in the

search for packaging materials from renewable sources. Among polymers

used, starch is of the greatest interest due to its abundance in nature, biodegradability,

be renewable and inexpensive. Due to its limitations, investigations are constantly being carried
out

that evaluate the mixture of starch with various components in the development of new films

biodegradable. The literature on the matter is considerable and in this work part of it was
reviewed and

compiled, to give an idea of the status of starch-based films, with an emphasis on

mechanical properties.

Keywords: biodegradation, food packaging, nanotechnology, starch films,

mechanical and barrier properties.
