While Development Stage - Group Reflection

Based on my group mates’ while development stage simulation videos, I

noticed that they have improve in a lot of aspects in conducting the lesson. All of
them are using different 21st Century Learning method in their lessons. There are
some aspects that I would like to reflect on.

First of all, ask the students to work in pair or group. To illustrate, in Anis
Atasha lesson, she asked her students to work in pair and create a mind map. It is very
good as it can increase the students participation and attention as they can work
together with friends. They also will no need to pressure working alone. It can reduce
the students anxiety. I strongly agree that students will have a good learning process if
they work in group or pair. Other than that, The thing that I like about Anis Atasha
lesson is how she used global issues as her topic. Using an authentic issues somehow
can attract the students to learn it. For example, Anis Atasha used Covid-19 issue and
the students can relate it as they can see how the issue can make the world chaos. The
students know as they also were affected by the issue.

On the other hand, Affly Gable have a good communication skill with the
students. Teacher communication skills are important for a teacher in delivery of
education to students (McCarthy and Carter, 2001). Affly Gable shows that he a
capable of in interacting with the students, managing the classroom and transmitting
the knowledge. Good communications minimize the potential of unkind feeling
during the process of teaching.

As for Kristen Lanvern, she conduct the lesson by ask the students to work in
group. As I said before, work in group is very good as the students will get excited
what they are going to learn. Other than that, when student are in a group, it can
increase the creativity of the students. Team work also can developed interpersonal
skills in the students. Students gain a better understanding of themselves. Group work
allows people a more accurate picture of how others see them. Other than that, Kristen
Lanvern used a DIY materials which is she make a placard that contains the point of
her lesson. She create her own materials to make sure the materials can cope with the
students. According to Nunan (1992), states that teaching materials are often the most
substantial and observable component of pedagogy. It’s mean that with good
materials, students will be attracted to learn language as their attention were captured
by the materials. ESL teachers in Malaysian should know how to develop materials
that can give a big impact to the students.

Move on to Rantah Mas, I think she have a good feedback with the students.
There are several reason why feedback is important in teaching. One of them is to
improve the process of self-assessment or reflections in learning. Students are usually
involved in monitoring gaps between internally set task goals and the outcomes that
they are generating (David J. Nichol and Debra M. Dick, 2006). Developing self
assessment can make feedback more effective. In Rantah Mas lesson, she also ask the
students to work in pair as she knows that work in group is very effective for the
students and also for the teacher. It can save a lot of time and can create an interaction
atmosphere between the students and the teacher. Rantah Mas also will discussed the
answer with the students to make sure the students learn from what the teacher want
them to understand from the lesson.

Last but not least, same with Rantah Mas, Kristen Lanvern and Anis Atasha,
he also ask the students to form a group. He knows the important of group work in
classroom. He also have a good pace and have a good pronunciation. However, the
audio in the video is quite slow, so I cannot I hear some word. However, Joaqim is
good in giving instructions to the students. I can understand the flow of his while
development stage.

In conclusion, I find that all of my groupmates videos are very well

informative and unique in their own way. I think that I can implement some of their
ideas when we are going to Latihan Mengajar (LM). I hope they can improve
according to my comments and reflection. Well done everyone.
