Events 1857- 1947

- 1857= the indian mutiny or the first war of
indipendence.
- 1858= the indian act =power transfered to british
government.
- 1885= indian national congress founded by ao hume
to unite all indians and strengthen bonds with
britania.
- 1905= first partition of bengal administrative
purposes .gives muslim a majority in that state.
- 1906= all india muslim league founded to promote
muslim political intrest.
- 1909= revocation of partition bengal . anti-british
and anti-hindu sentiments among muslims as they
lose majority in bengal.

- 1916=lucknow pact . the congres and the league unite

for greater self government. It is denied by british.
- 1919=rowallt acts or black acts passed over
opposition by by indian members of supreme
legislstive council
 . these were peacetime extensions of wartime
emergency measures.teir passage causes further
disaffection with britsh and leads to protest. Amritsar
masscre.genrel dyer open fires on 20000 unarmed
civilians at a political demontration against rowlalt
act.congress and legue loses faith in british.
- 1919=gandhi launches a non violent, non copreation
movement or satyagarh, against british for a free
india.
- 1922= twenty-one are killed by congress supporters
at chauri-chaura.
Gandhi suspends non cooperation movement and is
imprisoned .
- 1928= simon comission,set up to investigate the
indian political enviroment for future policy making
fails as all parties boycott it.
- 1929= congress calls for full indipendence.
