What is Technical Analysis?

Technical analysis is a type of analysis that is based on analyzing past market data to identify trends

and themes which can then be applied to current or future market data and used to create a

consistent edge in the markets.

There are many forms of this type of analysis. When you see traders marking up charts with

drawings, indicators, data analyzers, etc. you are witnessing technical analysis.

Technical analysis is the most commonly used type of analysis amongst retail traders, but it is also

commonly used by “big players” – professional trading institutions such as banks and hedge funds.

For example, many of the algorithms deployed by portfolio managers utilize technical analysis data to

execute and manage trades in the financial markets.

Technical analysis will be the key focus point in the intermediate section of the Trade Academy and

will provide the foundation you need to analyze and trade the financial markets.
