Case Study:
The Oxford University has been recently setup to provide state-of-the-art research facilities in
the field of Software Engineering to students and professors. As the size and capacity of the
institute is increasing with the time, it has been proposed to develop a Library Information
System (LIS) for the benefit of students and employees of the institute.
All users should be authenticated to enter into the main application. Any non-registered user
can register by filling an electronic form and submitting through the registration module. The
user name and password will be provided by the system after verifying all details.
Any non-member is not allowed to use this system to browse/search books online. Issuing or
returning books is restricted to valid users (members) only.
For the library staff, this system aids them to easily handle day-to-day book transactions. The
librarian has administrative privileges and complete control over the system.
The librarian can enter a new record into the system when a new book has been purchased, or
remove a record in case any book is taken off the shelf. He can issue books or get returned
books and update them in the system which will be stored in LIS database.
The final deliverable would a web application (using the recent HTML 5), which should run
only within the institute LAN. Although this reduces security risk of the software to a large
extent, care should be taken while sharing confidential information (eg., passwords).

2: Analyse the Case study and List out the Non-Functional requirements of the above
system.

3: Draw UML Activity diagram to depict the activities performed by the user(non
member, member)of  the above system.

4: Draw UML USE CASE DIAGRAM that depicts the use cases of the library staff for
the above Library Management system.
