Define a current problem in the selected country. Who is affected? Where are the

individuals located? What are the resulting socioeconomic costs of the problem to the

affected individuals?

The United States of America has documented over 16 million Covid-19 cases and

over 350,000 demises from the Covid-19 pandemic. These are the highest figures

internationally as compared to other countries affected by the pandemic (report, 2020). Even

though the pandemic started with minimal figures, the daily average has been recording new

highs since November 2020. After the third wave emerged in the country, over 100,000 more

patients have been admitted in hospitals unlike in the first and second wave.

The third wave of Covid-19 infection has affected most people in different countries

including the United States of America. This spring wave has affected many residents with

new strains of the virus. The wave started on the Northeast while the summer wave

concentrated on the Southern and the Western states (report, 2020). With the third wave of

infection, the Midwest states was hit hard even though all the states recorded an increase in

infections. The Covid-19 outbreak has affected the economy of many countries negatively,

the United States of America included.

What global and/or local technologies are emerging that could be used to solve the

problem? What are the costs associated with implementing the technology solution?

To mitigate through the Covid-19 pandemic promptly and reply to the new normal of

minimal profits in the mid-term, most companies will have to incorporate structural

performance advancement initiatives. For these initiatives, leaders must first advantage a

clear aim image for the company in three to six years. The initiative should include the future

key corporate framework and operating framework (Patton, 2020). Additionally, the

profitability goals and loss targets must also be well outlined in the program. From the aim
3

image outlined above, the performance initiative will embed levers like value sourcing,

reduction of overhead costs, invention footprint optimization and top-line levers. Modern

pricing mechanisms and promotion strategies are some of the top-line levers. A sophisticated

governance framework will see to it that laser-concentrated conveyance of such a holistic

initiative.

Harnessing the crisis as the transition catalyst, forward-looking companies and strong

companies should furthermore consider transformation initiatives to regulate corporate

fundamentals via portfolio optimization, fusion and acquisition tasks and re-organization.

These transformational roles should be in close synchronize with organizational performance

advancement initiative and be concentrated towards the target image (Patton, 2020).

Additionally, focusing on the long-term game plan will help in adjusting the short-term

Covid-19 response initiatives these initiatives include supply chain advancement, liquidity

guarantee, furlough initiatives and first expenditure containment that monitor the spread of

the virus. These shot-term strategies need to be adjusted over time to reach the long-term

targets.

Corporate executives who want to profit from the pandemic must begin establishing

structural performance strategies or transformational initiatives as soon as possible. To

prevent the theory that urgency continuously overrules the critical, this will need dedicated

groups for short-term remedy and the operational, justifiable substitute (Patton, 2020).

Through this approach, the companies will begin to experience the positive remedies

promptly and gain a strategic merit over their rivals.

Identify the location of the technology in the hype cycle within the country.

The hype cycle in the United States is taking place in the areas that have high

concentration of technology companies. Silicon Valley is one of the locations where the
4

technology is overly practiced by multinational corporations like Google (Patton, 2020).

Additionally, the hype cycle is also being conducted in the Washington state by Amazon,

Microsoft and other multinational corporations.

Apply the hype cycle and the 6 D’s of Disruption model (also known as 6 D’s of

Exponential Change) to the emerging technology. Explain the effect of the convergence.

The hype cycle for emerging technologies identified five exemptional emerging

technology inclinations that will blur the boundaries between human beings and computers

(Chen & Han, 2019). Emerging technology trends like artificial intelligence play a significant

role in allowing firms to become ubiquitous, overly present and linked to corporate

ecosystems to thrive in the near future.

To what extent will this emerging technology foster sustainability practices on the

economy in the selected country?

This invention will foster sustainability actions in the United States Economy through

disruption models. The disruption models include the freemium model, the subscription

model and the free offerings approach. The freemium model is one of the common corporate

models in the United States of America (Chen & Han, 2019). In this model, the consumers

receive services or products free of charge. Whether the companies are offering premium

services or basic functions, there is no extension or banding of services. Thus, the customer

must pay for any service they need. Some of the companies that use this approach are Spotify

and LinkedIn.

On the other hand, the subscription model s a framework where items and services are

offered on contributions. The amount that can be paid once is divided into monthly segments

or an entirely new service is launched that is bulled at regular intervals. The aim of this model

is to bind the consumer for long term corporate purposes (Chen & Han, 2019). Unlike the
5

one-time acquisition, the client benefits from the periodic adjustments and extensions of the

given service. Lastly, free offerings is an approach where a model has become popular

through Google. A good example of free offerings is Google and Instagram.

Identify two recommendations how an existing MNC in the selected country could

support sustainability initiatives by implementation of the emerging technology to

resolve the problem.

Multinational companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Alibaba are on the front line to

fight Covid-19 outbreak. Additionally, some United States Technology companies have also

taken part in controlling the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Amazon Incorporation has

pledged $5 million donation to the small enterprises within Amazon’s Seattle headquarters

proximity that will lose their sales due to the pandemic (2020). Most of the Tech employees

are working from home thus the companies around the Seattle headquarters will lose

important employees. In conjunction with Microsoft, Amazon Incorporation is one of the

founders of the Covid-19 Response initiative that targets the hard-hit state of Washington.

Together with Starbucks Foundation and Alaska Airlines, the Covid-19 Response initiative

have contributed over $2.6 million.
