PLANNING AND PREPARING COMPUTER HARDWARE ASSEMBLY

ACTIVTY 1
1. While you are working in a Computer Laboratory at school, what do you think is the most
common Occupational Health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures that may apply
while you are working in the computer laboratory?
 Always ground or discharge yourself before touching any part of the
computer.
 Do not work alone so that there is someone who ca take care of you in
case of accident and emergency.
 Be careful with the tools that may cause short circuit.
 Always pull the cable connector on the handle and not hold on the cable
itself.
 Use only rubber shoes when standing on the ground or in a concrete
floor.
 Make sure that the pins are properly aligned when connecting a cable
connector
 Always power off and unplug the computer before working on it.
 Take away any liquid such as mineral water or soft drinks near your
working area or near computers.
 Contingency measures during workplace accidents, fire and other
emergencies are recognized.
 Personal protective equipment is correctly used in accordance with
organization procedures and practice.

2. Why do we need to follow the basic safety guidelines in your Computer Laboratory?
 We should follow the basic safety guidelines in Computer Laboratory for
us to know how to avoid risk and danger and a also a basis of protection
not just only to us but also for the devices. OHS is the best policies and
procedure we must follow because it aims to protect health, safety and
welfare of all people at the workplace.

ACTIVITY 2
Directions: See the warning below and think of Occupational Health and Safety policies
and procedures when encountered such event in your daily task or routine.

 Unplug all the computers.

 When you shut down your computer, be sure to shut it down properly.
 Contingency measures during workplace accidents, fire and other
emergencies are recognized.

IDENTIFYING AND OBTAINING MATERIALS NECESSARY IN COMPUTER HARDWARE

ASSEMBLY

ACTIVITY 1
Directions. Rearrange the jumbled words and describe them in your own words.
1. WORKSTATION – is a place or an area where someone is working, especially a desk
with a computer. This is intended primarily to be used by on person at a time, they are
commonly connected to a local area network and multi-user operating systems.

2. LAPTOP – Lightweight Analytical Platform Total Optimized Power, is a computer that is

portable and suitable because of its small size.

3. HOME THEATER – a personal computer that Is used to store and play music and
movies as well as display photos. It is also called as all in one entertainment system.
4. NETTOP - sometimes called miniature Pc or mini Pc.

5. PC POCKET – a handheld-sized computer, personal digital assistance or smartphone

that runs the Microsoft.
ACTIVITY 2
Directions: Answer the following questions.
1. How would you differentiate All-in-One PC and Desktop PC?
 All in One PC is designed to be portable and take less than a desktop PC. Desktop
PC is composed of much more components than All in One Pc. The advantage of a
Desktop PC over the All in one PC is that you can upgrade components like RAM
and SSD.

2. What are the features of Ultra Mobile PC?

 An Ultra Mobile PC is a small handheld computer with the capacity to run the
Windows operating System.

3. Which computer do you think is widely use PC nowadays? Why?

 We are now in a new normal, new normal means studying at home and working at
home. So, I therefore conclude that the widely used PC now adays as the working at
home begins and online class is the LAPTOP, why? Because I or others prefer a
portable, small, easy to use, less expensive and easy to maintain.

 Upon reading the usage of a thermal paste I therefore conclude that when
you put it to the processor it will dissipate the heat.
2. Explain why you need to use anti-static tool when holding electronic parts of a computer
system?
 For me it is a must to use anti-static tool when holding parts of a
computer system why? First let me define the anti-static tool, is used to
eliminate electrostatic discharge in your work area or computer system.
Thus, it will prevent us in experiencing electric shock, prevent damage
when holding electronic computer parts and it is for our safety too.

ASSEMBLING COMPUTER HARDWARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ESTABLISHED

PROCEDURES AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

ACTIVITY 1
Directions. Answer the following questions below/
1. What would happen if you don’t follow the standard procedures in installing computer
hardware?
 I think the computer will malfunction; it won’t work properly. And the worst
is I might damage the computer because of mismatched parts.

2. What parts of the computer that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge?

 Upon reading and analyzing each computer system, I therefore conclude
that the most sensitive part of computer system that is sensitive to
electrostatic discharge is the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and the
Motherboard.

ACTIVITY 2
Direction. Arrange in logical manner on how to install CPU and Heat Sink fan Assembly
in a motherboard. Write the number 1 before the sentence which do you think the first step and
so on.
2 Place the CPU gently into the socket
1 Align the CPU so that the Connection 1 indicator is lined up with Pin 1 on the CPU
socket.
4 Apply a small amount of thermal compound to the CPU and spread it evenly. Follow the
application instructions provided by the manufacturer.
3 Close the CPU load plate and secure it by closing the load lever and moving it under the
load lever retention tab.
5 Line up the heat sink/fan assembly retainers to the holes on the motherboard.
7 Tighten the heat sink/fan assembly retainers to secure the assembly in place.
8 Connect the heat sink/fan assembly power cable to the header on the motherboard.
6 Place the heat sink/fan assembly onto the CPU socket, being careful not to pinch the
CPU fan wires.

ACTIVITY 3
Direction. Fill in the blanks. Complete the sentence by providing the correct answer on
each sentence.
1. Thermal compound helps to keep CPU cool.
2. Secure the power supply to the case using the proper screws.
3. The SATA data cable has a 7-pin connector.
4. Attach the monitor cable to the video port.
5. The floppy drive data cable has a 34-pin connector and it has a stripe to denote the
location of pin 1.
6. Power cables are used to distribute electricity from the power supply to the mother
board and other components.
7. A wireless NIC’S enables a computer to connect to a wireless network.
8. An optical drive is a storage device that reads and writes information to CDs or DVDs.
9. A RAM provides temporary data storage for the CPU while the computer is operating.

- I think that Software is an essential part of computer system. First, let me
define a software, is a collection of instruction that enable the user to interact
with a computer, its hardware or perform task. Thus, without software in a
computer system, most computers would be useless. A concrete example is
the inter browser software, without it we could not surf the internet or search
in the net.

3. Cite importance in reading the agreement before installing a software?

- If you develop software applications, an EULA (End-User License
Agreement) will be a very important and advantageous legal agreement for
you to include with the distribution of your software app. The user must agree
to the terms of the EULA before being able to install or access the software.
