**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**

Pernici et al. (“Residential Class”)

vs.
City of Shreveport
Suit No.: 610,530-C; First Judicial District Court; Caddo Parish, Louisiana

COURT AWARDS INTEREST IN $9.6 MILLION CLASS ACTION, INCREASING

TOTAL TO MORE THAN $11.3 MILLION; CITY OBTAINS LEAVE TO APPEAL

June 28, 2021

As class counsel on behalf of over 100,000 Shreveport households who have been
overcharged for water and sewer services over the past decade, it is our duty to report material
developments in that litigation. Today, in Caddo Parish District Court. Judge Pitman added legal
interest to the amounts already ruled to be owed by the City of Shreveport, raising the amount of
the Judgment from approximately $9.6 million to approximately $11.3 million due for water and
sewer overcharges. The same trial court found the City liable for these overcharges in October
2019. Interest accrues at approximately $831.00 per day.
This action has been pending for well over four years, having been filed during Mayor
Ollie Tyler’s Administration. However, for more than half the time it has been pending, Mayor
Adrian Perkins’ Administration has resisted efforts to secure repayment of these over-charges.
During these four and half years, the most common question we get from class members
is “When will we get repaid for these overcharges.” Most class members have already received a
small check and await payment of the larger amount under the Judgment which is now $11.3
million. As class counsel, we know we will get calls immediately asking this question again and
we can only respond, “We do not know”. These questions are best directed to Mayor Perkins and
your City Council. The law grants the City the right to appeal should it wish to do so; and, today,
the City also obtained leave to certify the judgment as “final”, so as to allow the Perkins
Administration to resist these claims in the court of appeal.
Should there be other developments we will advise the class.
