COMPARE THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF DNA AND RNA

DNA represents deoxyribonucleic corrosive, while RNA is ribonucleic

corrosive. Despite the fact that DNA and RNA both convey hereditary data; there
are many contrasts between them.

DNA is the long-term storage of genetic information; transmission of

genetic information to make other cells and new organisms. It is a double-
stranded molecule consisting of a long chain of nucleotides and contains the
sugar deoxyribose. DNA is self-replicating and its base pairing is AT (adenine-
thymine) and GC (guanine-cytosine). The C-H bonds in DNA make it fairly stable
under alkaline conditions. Last but not the least; DNA is susceptible to UV
damage.

On the other hand, RNA is used to transfer the genetic code from the
nucleus to the ribosomes to make proteins. RNA is used to transmit genetic
information in some organisms and may have been the molecule used to store
genetic blueprints in primitive organisms. It is usually a single-strand helix
consisting of shorter chains of nucleotides. RNA is synthesized from DNA on an
as-needed basis and it contains the sugar deoxyribose. Its base pairing is AU
(adenine-uracil) and GC (guanine-cytosine). The O-H bond in the ribose of RNA
makes the molecule more reactive, compared with DNA. RNA is not stable under
alkaline conditions. Compared with DNA, RNA is relatively resistant to UV
damage.
