Title:

Biodiversity and Soil Texture

Aims:
To determine the distribution and density of flora and fauna in a forested ecosystem.

To collect soil samples in a forested ecosystem.

Materials:

 Meter rule

 Surveyor’s Tape

 Clear plastic bag

 Mason Jar (atleast 600g)

 Soil samples

 Crucible

 Electronic balance

 Bunsen burner

 Ruler

Organic Matter Test

 A soil sample was collected and all twigs and debris was removed from it.

 The soil was used to fill on quart of the mason jar.

 Water was added to full three quarts of the mason jar.

 The suspension was then shaken and completley aggitated.

 The suspension was left to settle for 24 hours.

 The layers were diffrentiated and identified.

 Each layer was measured to find out the total soil volume in the mason jar.

 A soil textural triangle was used to represent an estimate of the soil textural class.
