I. Essay .

1. If given the chance to be a notable writer this time, how would you show to
the Filipinos the importance of the different literary influences from our
colonizers to our present culture and educational system? Elaborate your
answer . ( 50 points )
The literary heritage of the Philippines has been characterized as a hybrid
in nature, consisting of elements from various colonial eras. One way I can
stimulate and demonstrate to people the importance of recognizing literary
influences is to write stories about most literatures that are reflective of people's
beliefs and superstitions as manifested in various legends, folk tales,
incantations, and penetrating these stories through social media. Every day,
millions of posts go viral, and these social media platforms can sometimes serve
as a channel for the unseen. Social media platforms have proven to be a
powerful mechanism for ensuring that key and relevant issues are born,
nurtured, and mature through online participation, and publishing stories about
the significance of various literary influences from our colonizers is no exception.
I am a firm believer that literature is both a discovery and a disclosure act. And, if
given the opportunity to become a notable writer, I would use my intellectual
prowess to illuminate aspects of human experience, giving us an understanding
of other people's lives as well as an increasing accumulation of insights into our
own behavior, attitudes, and emotional involvement.

2. Which do you think of the periods of Philippine colonization has influenced

most of our Philippine educational system? Elaborate your answer. ( 50
points )
The impact of American education in the Philippines is still very visible
today since for almost half a century, the United States governed the Philippines.
As a colonial power, the United States pursued policies that it rightfully believed
would benefit the Filipinos' social and material well-being. The introduction of
the American educational system was one such policy, and its impact and
influence on the life and culture of the Filipino during and after the colonial
period was so pervasive and far-reaching that it is widely regarded as the
"greatest contribution" of American colonialism in the Philippines. In today's
Philippine educational system, one can find a variety of techniques and methods
for improving instruction that can be traced back to American influence.
Language laboratories, educational television, and various visual aids are no
longer considered novelties in Philippine schools, particularly at the higher levels
of education. They are regarded as necessities for better and more effective
teaching and are an essential component of the country's modern educational
system. In-service training, conferences, seminars, and workshops are held to
help teachers improve their teaching skills; typically, American educators and
American-trained Filipino education specialists are invited to serve as resource
persons. As a result, it is unavoidable that American educational ideas and
practices will be emphasized, influencing the outcomes of these training
activities.
