Introduction : According to the World Health Organization, if breastfeeding were scaled up to
near universal levels, about 820,000 child lives would be saved every year. Globally, only 40%
of infants under six months of age are exclusively breastfed.
You were all babies once, right? Do you know how your parents chose to feed and nourish you?
One major decision that every parent has to face with the arrival of a new baby, is how will they
nourish him or her, breastmilk or formula?

I am able to present this information to you because I have over two years experience, have read
numerous books, and I have even attended a breastfeeding nutrition class.

This is because in this perfect amount of milk, there are tons of protein, carbohydrates,
probiotics, healthy fats, and antibodies. All of these and more work together to help the immune
system more easily fight off infections and prevent diseases. Such are ear infections, diabetes,
asthma, respiratory infections and digestive issues. These benefits start from infancy and
continue into adulthood.

Lastly, I’d like to discuss the ways in which a mother benefits from breastfeeding. Did you
know, that she can burn up to 500 calories just by sitting there, relaxing and feeding her little
one?

Oxytocin aids in shrinking down the uterus to pre pregnancy size and it also reduces uterine
bleeding after birth. Breastfeeding also lowers a woman’s risk of breast cancer and ovarian
cancer. It can even reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and it lessens the severity of postpartum depression.

of the benefits of breastfeeding that both mom and baby receive.
