I am a recent alumni from Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles. I earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in Liberal Studies and was in the Multiple Subject Credential program. I received my
preliminary credential on 6/29/21. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have maintained
a GPA of 3.57 and have taken a diverse range of courses dedicated to helping all students
succeed. My program at MSMU greatly emphasized the importance of ensuring that all my
students are heard and valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. This was evident
in how MSMU showed us different teaching methods and techniques in order to provide more
engaging and impactful academic lessons. They also emphasized the importance of
empathy and compassion and gave us various restorative justice and socioemotional
practices to incorporate into our future classrooms. I feel that both are very much needed in
order for students to have a welcoming and engaging safe space for learning.

During my time at the Mount, I gained a very broad and diverse perspective on how
education can really impact the students we teach. I did my student teaching at Open
Magnet Charter School in Los Angeles and taught Kindergarteners and First graders. I was
able to observe and do my student teaching in classrooms where I was able to gain
experience with students of different backgrounds and circumstances. I did so during my
student teaching and from my other semesters of observations. From working with and
observing students from low-income families, to English Learners, to students with learning
disabilities, and more, I’ve seen the impact that teachers can have on all student’s lives. I
firmly believe that all students are capable of so much if given the opportunity to flourish.
