GLOBALIZATION OF RELIGION
WEEK 3

Activity 1
1. Religion
Religion is a social-cultural system of designated behaviors and practices, morals,
beliefs, worldviews, texts, sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that relates
humanity to supernatural, transcendental, and spiritual elements.
2. Region
Region is an area of land that has common features. A region can be defined by
natural or artificial features. Language, government, or religion can define a region, as can
forests, wildlife, or climate.
3. Liberalism
Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on liberty, consent of the
governed and equality before the law. It emphasizes individual autonomy, equality of
opportunity, and the protection of individual rights (primarily to life, liberty, and property),
originally against the state and later against both the state and private economic actors,
including businesses.
4. Secularism
Secularism, also called Secularity, is the idea of something being not religious or not
connected to a church or other religious organization. It is the principle seeking to
conduct human affairs based on secular, naturalistic considerations. It is most commonly
defined as the separation of religion from civic affairs and the state, and may be
broadened to a similar position concerning the need to suppress religion in any public
sphere.
5. Consumerism
Consumerism is the idea that increasing the consumption of goods and services
purchased in the market is always a desirable goal and that a person's wellbeing and
happiness depend fundamentally on obtaining consumer goods and material possessions. It is
a social and economic order that encourages the acquisition of goods and services in ever-
increasing amounts.

Process Question
1. Globalization of religion makes our society more similar (homogenous) or more different
(heterogeneous)? Why? How?
Globalization of religion makes our society more similar. It helps to increase greater
religious tolerance and acceptance of other culture and religion that enhances our mind,
knowledge etc. With globalization religion becomes a culture of pluralism that teach us to
respect of other religions.
2. Do you consider that religion is anti- rationalist? Why?
Rationality is based on reason or facts. Faith is belief in inspiration, revelation, or
authority. Rationalism holds that truth should be determined by reason and factual analysis,
rather than faith, dogma, tradition or religious teaching. Rationalism holds that truth should
be determined by reason and factual analysis, rather than faith, dogma, tradition or religious
teaching. Therefore, religion is not anti-rationalist.
3. Why do we need to manage globalization?
Globalization allows companies to find lower-cost ways to produce their products. It
also increases global competition, which drives prices down and creates a larger variety of
choices for consumers. Lowered costs help people in both developing and already-developed
countries live better on less money.
4. Differentiate Regionalization from Regionalism? (advantages and disadvantages)
Regionalization is the tendency to form regions or the process of doing so. When
used in opposition to globalization, this often means a world that is less connected, with a
stronger regional focus. Regionalism is a political ideology which seeks to increase the
political power, influence and/or self-determination of the people of one or more subnational
regions. Regionalism is important to you because it has been proven to increase the
efficiency and effectiveness of local governments. More efficient government helps keep
taxes and fees lower. Lastly not every issue is better solved through a regional approach and
in fact there are many instances where it just cannot work. Potential benefits of
regionalization may include a reduction in practice variation with improved adherence to best
practices, improved procedural outcomes due to higher provider skill and experience in high-
volume centers, and a concentration of expertise and resources that reduces duplication of
infrastructure. An advantage of regionalism includes having individuals learn their roles in
the community. one disadvantage of regionalism is that it can be too inclusive and keep new
individuals out.
5. What is the importance of regional organization? How?
Regional organizations play an important role in the development of legal and policy
frameworks, as well as in the design of effective action plans to better support the
advancement of the gender equality agenda at the global, regional and national levels.

Can COVID strike at economic globalization?
Abhirup Bhunia | Updated on April 16, 2020

The pandemic threatens to usher in a phase of economic insularity, through efforts at

localization of supply chains and stricter immigration controls. But to counter the economic
crisis, it is important to ensure that the world does not return to inward-looking prescriptions.
Economics will eventually dictate, but there is going to be a probable move towards government-
supported reorientation of supply chains. Significant restructuring of supply chains may ensue,
with possible efforts at localization of supply chains. Movement of goods, services and labor
may continue to be restricted. The fear of stricter immigration controls looms as unemployment
mounts.
The economic impact of COVID will continue to unfold in the coming weeks and
months, spreading much like the super-virus itself, affecting every part of an interconnected
global economy. Twenty-first century production of goods and services rely on a complex web
of firms across several countries, in turn providing employment to people in all participating
economies.
