Head Movement - Second Line of Defense

When strictly speaking of defending, I consider head movement as my second line of defence because I
choose to dodge when I find myself in a situation where my hands happen to be down or away from my
face. It could be that I threw a punch and my opponent is attacking me at the same time or that I have
dropped my hands because I am resting my shoulders. It is a 2nd choice of defence because it only
protects your head. When using head movement, it requires you to plant your legs, leaving yourself
open to low kicks and takedowns. However, in Chapter 7 on countering with head movement, you will
see how head movement is used to get into the pocket or close the distance.
