Task 1: On the backside of this paper, please fill in the plot diagram. Please describe the exposition,
rising actions, climax, falling actions, and resolution.

Task 2: Please summarize, in order, the major plot events of the story. In your summary, please
discuss the conflict/problem of the story, some of the important rising actions/events, the climax, and the
resolution. Look at your plot diagram to help you summarize.

At the beginning of Boris and Bella, I found out that the problem/conflict in the story is that Boris and
Bella can’t stand each other! Bella is a very messy person and Boris is the complete opposite. The two are
neighbors and cannot get along because they are both so different in terms of cleanliness! In this story
Bella and Boris each want to have their own Halloween parties, but none of their friends can make it;
everyone is going to Hairy Beastie’s party instead! So, Bella and Boris each decide to go to Hairy’s party
since no one can make theirs! Both Boris and Bella were super-bored at the party, unfortunately. Near the
climax of the story, the two enemies get together as they watch everyone at the party dance. Thinking they
can show everyone else up at the party, Boris and Bella start to dance together! At the climax of the story,
Boris and Bella dance together and find they really enjoy each other’s presence! So, after they dance, they
share a drink and cozy-up on a couch together. Boris and Bella say, “Happy Halloween” to each other as
they gaze into each other’s eyes! At the resolution, we find out that the following Halloween Boris and
Bella throw a party TOGETHER!

Task 3: Describe the character/person who changed the most from the beginning of the book to the
end of the book. Explain the change and what caused it.

I believe both Boris and Bella changed quite a bit from the beginning to the end of the story, in terms of
how they felt about each other. Boris and Bella disliked each other so much because they were so
different. At the beginning of the story, for example, Boris shouted to Bella, “Clean up those crusty old
cauldrons! I’m sick of your cluttered yard!” In turn, Bella told Boris, “Can’t you stop those bewitched
broomsticks from sweeping? They’re driving me batty!” Obviously Boris and Bella did not get along with
each other. Towards the end of the story, Boris and Bella discover that even though they have many
differences, they do have a couple things in common; they love to dance and they love each other!

Task 4: Author’s Purpose- WHY did the author write this book?

The author wrote this book not only to entertain a younger audience, but also to teach the reader a lesson;
even though people are very different from each other, they do have some similarities. For example, all
people, no matter the differences, can learn to love and get along.

Task 5: Intended Audience- WHO did the author write this book for?

I believe the author wrote the book for a younger audience because it is a picture book. But, I also believe
anyone could benefit from learning the lesson that is taught in this book!
