List of Corrosion Resistance of Stainless Steels against Chemical Cargoes 1. Corrosion resistance data of stainless steel Type304 and ‘Type316L used for tanks of chemical tankers are presented in the following tables 2. The distinction tables of chemical cargoes are quoted from IBC code chapter 17 and chapter 18. ‘The condition of cargoes are defined to be 100% contents, at ambient temperature. 8. The designation of corrosion grades in the tables 3-1, Marks on each list indicate their corrosion resistance as follows, O 5 Satisfactory ; Corrosion rate is less than 0.Imm/y. X 5 Not recommended 5 Corrosion rate is not standardized. Ps Pending 3-2, Sub-grades used in the designation "A"have the following meaning. "2"; Corrosive when foreign material is contained. ( Crude phosphoric acid (commercial grade) (2) Chlorinated hydrocarbons «+ (3) 10% sodium hypochlorate solution : + Appendix A sossees Appendix B Appendix C @) Allyl chloride + Appendix D (5) Benzyl chloride «+++ ++ : ” » Appendix E (6) Benzenesulphonyl chloride ©+++++++0000+r00erree Appendix F "3" ; Transportable. However, the following limitations are imposed on the density and temperature of the load. (1) Caustic potash solution . “ Appendix G (2) Nitric acid «+++ : ++ Appendix H. (3) Sodium brohydride, 15%or less / sodium hydride solution, Potassium hydroxide solution: Appendix I @ Sulphulie acid: ++ +++» Appendix J "4"; Transportable. However, the following limitations are imposed on the handling of loads from loading through transport to unloading. (2) Chemicals which may decompose should be applied with stabilizer to prevent decomposition during transport. (2) Water content of each chemical load should be within the tolerances (the range in which water does not separate out), jemical cargoes. (3) A set of requirements are especially stipulated for some steteeesenneeees Appendix K 2-19
