1. What is Gnomish Log Rotator (GLR) 5000?

==========================================

A simple, brilliantly conceived utility that automatically rotates your Neverwinter

Nights client and server log files, thus preventing them from being overwritten.
GLR 5000 is the successor to the original Gnomish Log Rotator
(http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=155) and like the original is
destined to revolutionize the computer gaming industry.

2. System Requirements
======================

GLR 5000 has been tested on Windows XP and Windows Vista. It requires the .NET
Framework 2.0, which should have been installed with NWN2. If you need to install
the .NET Framework it can be downloaded here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-
aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

3. Installation
===============

1. Extract GLR.exe anywhere.

2. IMPORTANT: In order for GLR 5000 to rotate client log files, client chat logging
must be enabled.

To enable chat logging in NWN:

Find the file nwnplayer.ini in your NWN installation directory and open it in
Notepad. Under the section [Game Options] add the following line:

ClientChatLogging=1

Save the file and exit.

To enable chat logging in NWN2:

Find the file nwn2player.ini in My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2 and open it in

Notepad. Under the section [Game Options] add the following line:

ClientChatLogging=1

Save the file and exit.

3. Double-click on GLR.exe to run the application and display the configuration
screen. GLR 5000 requires some configuration before it can rotate log files (see
Configuration). Once configured, GLR 5000 will sit patiently in the Windows tray
and monitor the activity of NWN and NWN2 client and server applications. When one
of those applications terminates, GLR 5000 will rotate the corresponding log file
if configured to do so. GLR 5000 must be running in order to rotate log files.

4. Configuration
================

Here is an explanation of the various configuration options:

Launch GLR 5000 when Windows starts - Pretty self-explanatory.

Rotate (NWN/NWN2) (client/server) log - Check this box to enable log rotation. GLR
5000 will monitor the corresponding application and rotate the log file when that
application terminates.

Location of (NWN/NWN2) (client/server) log - GLR 5000 needs to know where the log
file is located. You should run NWN or NWN2 at least once with chat logging enabled
in order for the log file to be created. The log files are usually found in the
following locations:

NWN Client:
C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\logs\nwclientlog1.txt

NWN Server:
C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\logs.0\nwserverLog1.txt

NWN2 Client:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local
Settings\Temp\NWN2\LOGS\nwclientLog1.txt

NWN2 Server:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local
Settings\Temp\NWN2\LOGS.0\nwserverLog1.txt

Save logs to - GLR 5000 needs to know where it should copy the rotated log file.

Log naming convention - If left blank, the rotated log file will be named according
to the following format string:

yyMMdd_HHmm'.txt'

Otherwise, you can specify a custom format string. For more information visit:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8kb3ddd4.aspx

Show notification when log is rotated - If this box is checked, GLR 5000 will
display a little text ballon when it rotates a log. How adorable.

5. Feedback
===========
