The legal framework that establishes the implementation of ECTS is set out in Portugal by the Decree Law No. 42/2005 of February 22nd.
"The study time of a full-time academic year is between 1500 and 1680 hours and is completed in a period of 36-40 weeks ". 60 ECTS
measure the full-time workload over the course of one academic year and 30 ECTS correspond to a semester .

Each ECTS represents 28 hours of student work. The following are considered as hours of student work: class time, contact, training/internships, projects, field work, study and
evaluation . In order to be awarded credits, students will have to comply with the evaluation required by the courses chosen in the Study Plan and obtain a passing grade in those
courses. Grades are reported on a carefully calibrated A-F scale combined with keywords and short qualitative definitions.

The ECTS grades are not meant to replace the local grades but to be used additionally in order to effectively “translate” and “transcript” a grade from one institution to another.
ULisboa also issues the Diploma Supplement to guarantee international academic and professional recognition of qualifications.

Examination Period 1st semester (January and February) 2nd semester (June and July) Note: Exams (written, oral or Both). In some cases students must submit a project or
complete laboratory work.
