MENTAL HEALTH OF 5 STUDENTS OF 11-JOAQUIN
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
This crisis that happening in the world right now is what makes students
physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted. Mental illness or disorders are so
complicated that’s why it’s not easy to make a solution to this problem Our
generation can also have this issue or problem especially students. There are so
many kinds of mental illnesses or disorders and the most common disorder in a
student base on research was Anxiety.
This problem in every student that has this issue was leading them to have
more stress, procrastination, and intrusive thoughts, which can affect their
academic performance. In this kind of new normal thing in school.
Students that have this kind of disorder were more likely to have an
advantage or disadvantage for their learning. Students that have unhealthy mental
health either it’s professionally diagnosed or self-diagnosed have to be strong and
prevent it sooner. To prevent this avoid negativeness, self-harm, overthinking,
stress, procrastination, toxic positivity, and keep away from people who are not
helping your progress. Doing regular exercise, eating in time, motivating yourself,
and loving yourself can be a big help for your treatment.
We must understand that mental health is important as physical health. Our
government was not spending enough money to prevent and help people that have
mental illnesses or disorders. It’s not quite good to know that this year we’re still
striving to prevent and help those people who are seeking some help.
Statement of the problem
1. How does the Unhealthy Mental health of these 5 Students affect their academic
performance.
2. How can they get through the stress and other Mental illness or disorders.
3. What are they doing to keep their Mental health healthy.

2. Identify how we are not well aware and ready to face the problem of Mental
health.

REVIEW OR RELATED LITERATURE

As a Senior High School students it’s so interesting to me to look at the

percentage of the students who have this different kind of mental illness and have
healthy mental health. Based on the research of the Association for Children’s
Mental Health (ACMH) Nationally, only 40 percent of students with emotional,
behavioral, and mental health disorders graduate from high school, compared to
the national average of 76 percent; ³ and, Over 50% of students with emotional and
behavioral disabilities ages 14 and older, drop out of high school.
Addressing mental health needs in school is critically important because 1
in 5 children and youth have a diagnosable emotional, behavioral or mental health
disorder and 1 in 10 young people have a mental health challenge that is severe
enough to impair how they function at home, school or in the community.
As said by Dr. David Navarro We are not spending enough money on mental
illness. On average, just 3% of government health budgets are invested in mental
health, varying from less than 1% in low-income countries to 5% in high-income
countries. We need to let the world’s governments know that investment in mental
health makes economic sense: Every dollar invested in scaling up treatment for
depression and anxiety leads to a return of $4 in better health and ability to work.
Mental illness can include anxiety, addictive behavior, schizophrenia, and
dementia, but by far the most common malady is depression. More than 300
million people—5% of the world population—suffer from depression at any time.
This is a truly staggering number, and it’s on the rise; the number of sufferers has
increased by one-fifth since 2005. When we are depressed we lose energy and are
less able to concentrate. Our appetites and sleep patterns change. We may feel
worthless or guilty, we might lose hope and start thinking about harming ourselves.
Indeed, hundreds of thousands of lives are lost due to suicide each year. People
who are depressed are more likely to abuse drugs and other substances, to eat the
wrong foods and become diabetic, or to be at risk of heart disease.

Prevention
Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and
improve both your physical health and mental health. When it comes to your
mental health, self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and
increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big
impact Self-care looks different for everyone, and it is important to find what you
need and enjoy. It may take trial and error to discover what works best for you. In
addition, although self-care is not a cure for mental illnesses, understanding what
causes or triggers your mild symptoms and what coping techniques work for you
can help manage your mental health.
