The DTE SA virtual appliance is meant for demonstration and training purposes

only. It is not officially supported by Juniper Networks.

The DTE virtual appliance comes with almost all SA features available on
hardware SA appliances including the capability to cluster up to two DTE
appliances. There are some exceptions though, e.g., the capability to create
IVS virtual systems is not available on DTE virtual appliances.

The DTE virtual appliance is prelicensed to allow a maximum of 3 concurrent

users. There is no way to increase the licensed capacity of this virtual
appliance.

The DTE virtual appliance image consists of two files - (i) a VMWare disk
image that contains the SA software and (ii) a OVF specification that defines
the virtual appliance and contains a reference to the above disk image.

The DTE virtual appliance can be instantiated on the latest versions of the
VMware Player and the VMWare Workstation platforms. To instantiate the virtual
appliance, users can convert the OVF to VMX using Workstation's conversion
wizard or using VMware vCenter Converter standalone or OVF tool. VMware
recommends using OVF tool for this purpose.

Users are free to change the memory capacity specified in the OVF specification.
however, users must not change the specified disk capacity.

The disk image has been optimized to minimize the shipping image size. When
the virtual appliance is powered on for the first time, it will expand the SA
software package and do the actual installation. If several copies of the DTE
appliance are needed, it may be useful to export a copy of the fully installed
virtual appliance.

The DTE virtual appliance is by default configured to use the virtual machine
console screen available in the VMware products. The DTE appliance can be
configured with the initial network settings from that console screen. The
DTE appliance can be optionally configured to redirect its system console to
a virtual serial port. The option to do this is avaible at both the system
console menu and the at the admin UI.
