Lesson Plan in Health 8

Demonstration Teaching via LAC

Learning Competencies:

Discusses the stages of infection (H8DD-IIIa-15)

Analyzes the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the Philippines
(H8DD-IIIa-16)
I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

A. Identify the links of infection;

B. Differentiate the stages of infection;
C. realize the significance of understanding the chain and stages of infection by
recommending actions to prevent and control the spread of diseases in the
Philippines.

I SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Disease Prevention and Control

II LEARNING TASKS

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. ACTIVITY
Let’s start our class with a game “P U M What are we going to do in this game
gaming” ma’am?

As we are facing this situation brought by Yes Ma’am! PUM means Person under
COVID19, terms such as PUM is often monitoring. This involves people who are
heard. Are you aware of this? on quarantine and possible cases of the
said virus.
Good job that you are able to apply the This can be known by having a positive
importance of getting updated on what is result after a swab test.
happening around you (AP2KOM-If-H8-
Natutukoy ang mga natural na kalamidad o
sakunang madalas maganap sa sariling
komunidad) Then how can you say a person
is infected with the virus?

Correct! Here, you can see different people.

Looking at them, can you tell who among No Ma’am. Since you can be infected by
them have the COVID19 virus? the virus with or without symptoms
showing.
Good! Here is the mechanics of the game.
Each person has a question. If you have
answered them correctly, then you will be Yes Ma’am
able to continue the game. If not, you are out
and be infected with the virus. To give your
answer, use our group chat to send your
answer. Are you ready?

ACTIVITY PROPER

B. ANALYSIS ACTIVITY PROPER

How did you find the activity?

That’s nice! Most of the questions are all

about what? We enjoyed the activity Ma’am.

The questions are about disease, how it is

transmitted, its sources, and etc.
Were you able to get the correct answers
honestly? How? Yes Ma’am, my answers are based on what
I know and mostly based on my
experiences when I got sick.
Very good! We will have another game
called “Pick Me Out”. We have an existing
pathogen here, inside of it, contains a lot of ACTIVITY PROPER
diseases. Categorize these diseases according
to their nature. Whether it is Communicable
or Non Communicable diseases.

C. ABSTRACTION

CHAIN OF INFECTION
Infection An invasion of microorganisms into
the body that are capable of producing a disease.
There are six links in the chain of infection
PATHOGEN, RESERVOIR, PORTAL OF
EXIT MODE OF TRANSMISSION, PORTAL
OF ENTRY, and SUSCEPTIBL E HOST
CHAIN OF INFECTION
PATHOGEN It is an organism with the ability to
cause disease. “bacteria, virus, fungi, protozoa,
parasitic worms, rickettsiae”
RESERVOIR It is a place within which
microorganisms can thrive and reproduce. “The
most common reservoir is the human body.”
PORTAL OF EXIT It provides a way for a
microorganism to leave the reservoir. “through
the nose, mouth, body feces”
MODE OF TRANSMISSION It is the method
by which the organism moves from one host to
another. “direct contact, indirect contact, air-
borne, food-borne, water-borne, vector-borne”
PORTAL OF ENTRY It is an opening allowing
the microorganism enter the host. “body orifices,
mucus membranes, breaks in the skin”
They may enter through: Respiratory System
(inhalation) Gastrointestinal System (ingestion)
They may enter through: Urinary and
Reproductive Tracts (sexual contact) Breaks in
the skin
THE SUSCEPTIBLE HOST It is a person who
cannot resists a microorganism invading its
body.
Now, we have also STAGES OF INFECTION:
INCUBATION STAGE, PRODROMAL
STAGE, ILLNESS STAGE, and RECOVERY
STAGE
INCUBATION STAGE It is when a person
acquires the pathogen until the appearance of the
first sign. “silent stage”
PRODROMAL STAGE It is when there are non-
specific signs and symptoms appearing.
“headache, runny nose, slight fever”
ILLNESS or CLINICAL STAGE It is the time
when illness reaches its highest point of
development. “severe aches, vomiting, high
fever, sore throat, sinus congestion”
RECOVERY or CONVALESCENCE STAGE
This is the time when recovery seems complete
although the disease is still communicable.
“pathogen has mostly eliminated”

With what we have discussed in the video

lesson. I would like to see how you will think
of ways how you can prevent these
communicable diseases. Just like one of the
topics in Science (S4LT-IIa-b-4- Practice
habits to maintain a healthy body) and in your
ESP (EsP9PL-Ia-1.2- Nakapagsusuri ng mga
halimbawa ng pagsasaalang-alang sa
kabutihang panlahat sa pamilya, paaralan,
pamayanan o lipunan) to not further spread
these diseases through this activity.
Now, It’s time for you to share your experiences
in dealing with communicable diseases. In your
answer sheet, fill in each finger both hands by:

Having a recall of the helpful things your

parents have done since you were a baby up to
the present in order to prevent you from getting
sick. Got it? You will be given 5 minutes.

D. APPLICATION
What To Do 101: Look at the figure and write
what you should do and what you should not
be doing if you are the one in the picture.
Look at the choices below and write the ACTIVITY PROPER
appropriate answers.

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

E. ASSESSMENT
ACTIVITY PROPER
Lastly, to measure how much you have learned
today, let’s have a Tiktok Contest! I’ll play a
tiktok video and you have to write in your
answer sheet your answers and we will check it
later.

1. What is not the most common type of contact

that spreads bacteria?
a. Point of entry
b. Direct contact
c. Susceptible person
d. Indirect contact
2. The chain of infection is a visual
representation of:
a. the types of microbes that can cause an
infection.
b. the events that have to occur for an infection
to develop.
c. a chain of job functions that increase a
person’s risk of developing an infection.
d. the two primary bloodborne pathogens.
3. Michael has an infection in his sinuses and
lungs. He is coughing and sneezing the whole
shift. Which link represents the break in the
chain of infection in this scenario?
a. Infectious agent c. Port of exit
b. Reservoir d. Port of entry
4, The most common reservoir of pathogen is the
human body. TRUE or FALSE

5. Rico is vomiting. He has severe headache,

high fever, and sore throat. Which stage of
infection is he experiencing?
a. Incubation stage c. Clinical stage
b. Prodomal stage d. Recovery stage

Arrange the following processes in chronological

order. Write letters A to E on the space provided
before each number.

_____ 6. passed through a direct or indirect

Mode of Transmission.
_____ 7. reservoir which can be a living or non-
living object. When the pathogen
_____ 8. Susceptible Host if one who has a low
immunity resistance is the next victim.
_____9. leaves the reservoir through a Portal of
Exit, the pathogen is
_____ 10. The organism enters then the body
through a Portal of Entry and the The chain of
infection starts when a pathogen lives in.

IV. Assignment
Directions: You will be making a poster about the stages of infection. You
substitute the names of the stages of infection with symbols. Do it in a 1 short
bond paper. The following criteria will be used in checking the assignment:
 Content – 10 pts.
 Presentation – 10 pts.
 Creativity – 10 pts.
TOTAL = 30 points
