VIDEO INDEXER

Video Indexer is a cloud application built on a raft of Microsoft Azure tools, including Media
Analytics, Search, Cognitive Services – such as the Face API, Microsoft Translator, the
Computer Vision API, and Custom Speech Service – and more.

It’s designed to help users extract insight from videos using and provide services ranging from
keyframe extraction to sentiment analysis; visual content moderation and identity recognition.

Features

1. Video insights

 Face detection: Detects and groups faces appearing in the video.

 Celebrity identification: Video Indexer automatically identifies over 1 million
celebrities—like world leaders, actors, actresses, athletes, researchers, business, and tech
leaders across the globe. The data about these celebrities can also be found on various
websites (IMDB, Wikipedia, and so on).
 Account-based face identification: Video Indexer trains a model for a specific account.
It then recognizes faces in the video based on the trained model. For more information,

14 | P a g e
see Customize a Person model from the Video Indexer website and Customize a Person
model with the Video Indexer API.
 Thumbnail extraction for faces ("best face"): Automatically identifies the best captured
face in each group of faces (based on quality, size, and frontal position) and extracts it as
an image asset.
 Visual text recognition (OCR): Extracts text that's visually displayed in the video.
 Visual content moderation: Detects adult and/or racy visuals.
 Labels identification: Identifies visual objects and actions displayed.
 Scene segmentation: Determines when a scene changes in video based on visual cues. A
scene depicts a single event and it's composed by a series of consecutive shots, which are
semantically related.
 Shot detection: Determines when a shot changes in video based on visual cues. A shot is
a series of frames taken from the same motion-picture camera. For more information,
see Scenes, shots, and keyframes.
 Black frame detection: Identifies black frames presented in the video.
 Keyframe extraction: Detects stable keyframes in a video.
 Rolling credits: Identifies the beginning and end of the rolling credits in the end of TV
shows and movies.
 Animated characters detection (preview): Detection, grouping, and recognition of
characters in animated content via integration with Cognitive Services custom vision. For
more information, see Animated character detection.
 Editorial shot type detection: Tagging shots based on their type (like wide shot,
medium shot, close up, extreme close up, two shot, multiple people, outdoor and indoor,
and so on). For more information, see Editorial shot type detection.
2. Audio insights
 Audio transcription: Converts speech to text in 12 languages and allows extensions.
Supported languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Mandarin
Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, Hindi, and Korean.
 Automatic language detection: Automatically identifies the dominant spoken language.
Supported languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Mandarin

15 | P a g e
Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Portuguese. If the language can't be identified with
confidence, Video Indexer assumes the spoken language is English. For more information,
see Language identification model.
 Multi-language speech identification and transcription: Automatically identifies the
spoken language in different segments from audio. It sends each segment of the media file
to be transcribed and then combines the transcription back to one unified transcription. For
more information, see Automatically identify and transcribe multi-language content.
 Closed captioning: Creates closed captioning in three formats: VTT, TTML, SRT.
 Two channel processing: Auto detects separate transcript and merges to single timeline.
 Noise reduction: Clears up telephony audio or noisy recordings (based on Skype filters).
 Transcript customization (CRIS): Trains custom speech to text models to create
industry-specific transcripts. For more information, see Customize a Language model from
the Video Indexer website and Customize a Language model with the Video Indexer APIs.
 Speaker enumeration: Maps and understands which speaker spoke which words and
when. Sixteen speakers can be detected in a single audio-file.
 Speaker statistics: Provides statistics for speakers' speech ratios.
 Textual content moderation: Detects explicit text in the audio transcript.
 Audio effects (public preview): Detects the following audio effects in the non-speech
segments of the content: Gunshot, Glass shatter, Alarm, Siren, Explosion, Dog Bark,
Screaming, Laughter, Crowd reactions (cheering, clapping, and booing) and Silence. Note:
the full set of events is available only when choosing ‘Advanced Audio Analysis’ in
upload preset, otherwise only ‘Silence’ and ‘Crowd reaction’ will be available.
 Emotion detection: Identifies emotions based on speech (what's being said) and voice
tonality (how it's being said). The emotion could be joy, sadness, anger, or fear.
 Translation: Creates translations of the audio transcript to 54 different languages.
3. Audio and video insights (multi-channels)
 Keywords extraction: Extracts keywords from speech and visual text.
 Named entities extraction: Extracts brands, locations, and people from speech and
visual text via natural language processing (NLP).

16 | P a g e
 Topic inference: Makes inference of main topics from transcripts. The 2nd-level IPTC
taxonomy is included.
 Artifacts: Extracts rich set of "next level of details" artifacts for each of the models.
 Sentiment analysis: Identifies positive, negative, and neutral sentiments from speech and
visual text.

QUILLIONZ

Quillionz is the world’s first AI based question generator and is perfect if we are looking for
questions that ask the learners to identify and recall specific entities, key words, and phrases,
define key terms, and describe key ideas encountered in the content. Quillionz also creates
questions that evaluate the learners’ ability to explain causal relationships based on explicitly
stated reasoning and cite examples of general ideas expressed in the content.

Quillionz is the world’s first intelligent tool for automatically generating questions from written
content. This unique AI-driven platform has the potential to transform the way teachers create
quizzes, tests, and assessments. Quillionz accomplishes this by leveraging the power and
promise of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. That’s what makes it a game-
changer.

The platform creates a variety of questions based on the written content, including multiple-
choice questions, fill in the blank questions, and short descriptive questions. Once the items are
ready, Quillionz allows to curate and revise them as much as we want, choose the questions we
like the most and edit them to make them perfect. From there, we can download the text file,

21 | P a g e
convert it to a Word file and print the assessment to administer it to the students, or we can
publish them as a QuilliQuiz, which is basically a self-assessment utility.

Quillionz as a Teaching Tool

Customized, text-based questions can be useful for formative assessment or skill-building. You
can easily develop pre-unit assessments with Quillionz to find out what kids already know about
a topic, and inform your instruction based on the results. Or create quick formative assessments
from your lecture notes, class reading materials, online content, or PDFs. Teachers can also use
the platform to mix up quizzes for kids, create assessments with scaffolded questions, or vary
texts by level of difficulty. Looking for a more student-centered approach? Let students use the
platform to create and evaluate text-based questions, perhaps sharing sets with classmates or
developing a master class set.

Quillionz may present dozens of keywords and phrases, so choosing the most important ones can
feel like a chore -- it may take a few tries to get it right. Users will also have to put in some extra
work if they want to generate high-quality questions. Teachers may find using Quillionz is faster
than starting from scratch but will have to decide whether or not the time saved is worth the
benefit.

FACE DETECTION

38 | P a g e
Facial Recognition is a category of biometric software that maps an individual’s facial features
and stores the data as a face print. The software uses deep learning algorithms to compare a
live captured image to the stored face print to verify one’s identity. Image processing and
machine learning are the backbones of this technology. Face recognition has received
substantial attention from researchers due to human activities found in various applications of
security like an airport, criminal detection, face tracking, forensic, etc. Compared to other
biometric traits like palm print, iris, fingerprint, etc., face biometrics can be non-intrusive.

They can be taken even without the user’s knowledge and further can be used for security-
based applications like criminal detection, face tracking, airport security, and forensic
surveillance systems. Face recognition involves capturing face images from a video or a
surveillance camera. They are compared with the stored database. Face recognition involves
training known images, classify them with known classes, and then they are stored in the
database. When a test image is given to the system it is classified and compared with the stored
database.

Face Recognition Operations

The technology system may vary when it comes to facial recognition. Different software
applies different methods and means to achieve face recognition. The stepwise method is as
follows:

 Face Detection:  To begin with, the camera will detect and recognize a face. The face
can be best detected when the person is looking directly at the camera as it makes it easy for
facial recognition. With the advancements in the technology, this is improved where the
face can be detected with slight variation in their posture of face facing to the camera.
 Face Analysis: Then the photo of the face is captured and analyzed. Most facial
recognition relies on 2D images rather than 3D because it is more convenient to match to
the database. Facial recognition software will analyze the distance between your eyes or the
shape of your cheekbones.
 Image to Data Conversion:  Now it is converted to a mathematical formula and these
facial features become numbers. This numerical code is known a face print. The way every
person has a unique fingerprint, in the same way, they have unique face print.

39 | P a g e
 Match Finding:  Then the code is compared against a database of other face prints. This
database has photos with identification that can be compared. The technology then
identifies a match for your exact features in the provided database. It returns with the match
and attached information such as name and addresses or it depends on the information saved
in the database of an individual.

Recent advances in face detection have created a lot of excitingand reasonably

robust applications. As most of the developedalgorithms can also be applied to
other problem domains, it hasbroader impact than detecting faces in images alone.
Futureresearch will focus on improvement of detection precision (interms of
location), online training of such detectors, and novelapplications.

HUBERT.AI

Hubert was built after noticing teachers receive very little and very low qualitative feedback
from students. Feedback surveys are being used once or twice a year and produce mostly
quantitative numbers that can be used to calculate means and so on.What teachers really need to
develop teaching skills is qualitative feedback, comments, and suggestions on how to
improve.Surveys can be used to collect qualitative data, but it can be hard to get students to write
comments in surveys, and if they do write a lot, comments are hard to categorize and analyze. A
good way to replace boring surveys would be through conversation, and that’s when they came
up with the idea of using a chatbot to engage with the students.A chatbot collecting responses is
a perfect compromise between a survey and a personal interview—we can still reach a large
crowd but also dig much deeper than any survey ever could.

Hubert engages students and chats about how the class was perceived and he can even ask
follow-up questions or ask for clarification. When all comments have been collected, they are
automatically sorted through Hubert's deep-learning algorithm and presented arranged by
category and consensus to the teacher. The teacher can simply browse the top points and quickly
understand where improvement can be made. The new way to collect feedback is used in over
600 schools and universities worldwide.

5. CHOOSE WHY YOU ARE LEARNING A LANGUAGE

Here you will choose why you are choosing to learn a language on Duolingo. It
doesn’t matter which option you choose, this is just Duolingo trying to collect data
on why users are using Duolingo. It won’t make any difference on the type of
lessons/courses on the app.

6. PICK YOUR DAILY GOAL (YOU CAN CHANGE THIS LATER)

Now you will choose your daily goal on Duolingo. For me, I always choose the
highest option, but you can change your Duolingo daily goal  at any time.

QUIZLET

Quizlet is an American online study application that allows students to study various topics via
learning tools and games. Quizlet trains students via flashcards and various games and tests. As a
memorization tool, Quizlet lets registered users create sets of terms and definition customized for
their own needs. These sets of terms can then be studied using a variety of modes.

Flash Cards: This mode is similar to paper flash cards. Users are shown a "card" for each term,
which they can flip over by clicking or using the arrow keys or space bar. The user has the option
for the face of the card to be an image, a word, or bot.

64 | P a g e
Gravity: In this mode, definitions scroll vertically down the screen in the shape of asteroids. The
user must type the term that goes with the definition before it reaches the bottom .It is one of the
'Play' study modes. Gravity was adapted from a previous game, Space Race. The user can pick
the level of difficulty and game type. An exploit for this game is to put it on "starred mode" and
select one word for starred mode by looking at the cards , and then clicking on the star shaped
button.) Going onto the game and starting it with starred mode still on, the user will only have
one word, and can thus copy & paste the same word over and over again , resulting in
ridiculously high scores.

Write: In this mode, users are shown a term or definition and must type the term or definition
that goes with what is shown. After entering their answer, they see if their answer was correct,
and can choose to override the automatic grading and count their answer as right if needed. This
mode was previously called "Learn."

Speller: In this mode, the term is read out loud and users must type in the term with the correct
spelling. If the user gets every answer correct, they are rewarded with a video of a monster truck
doing a jump, wheelie, and a flip.

Match: In this mode, users are presented with a grid of scattered terms. Users drag terms on top
of their associated definitions to remove them from the grid and try to clear the grid in the fastest
time possible. Micro-match is a related matching game geared towards mobile devices and
devices with small screens. Match was previously attributed as "Scatter", though the game was
the same.

Live: In this mode, a Quizlet user (usually a teacher) breaks their class up into teams, or playz
the game with students individually. The teacher chooses whether to start with a definition or
term. Each team will have to choose the correct term/definition to win. . This game works by
choosing a set of flashcards and putting these flashcards into a format which works for the game.
If a player or team chooses the incorrect term or definition, the score will reset.

65 | P a g e
Quizlet’s mission is to help students (and teachers) practice and master what they’re learning. In
Quizlet, information is organized into “study sets” that users like teachers or students add to their
accounts. When using Quizlet, students log in and choose the appropriate study set for the
concepts they need to review. These can be created by a teacher or generated by other users.
Because of the flexibility and customization available, Quizlet can be used in any grade level and
any type of class.

Overall, Quizlet can be a great tool for teachersas well as for students for three reasons:

1. Teachers can easily differentiate review for their students

2. Teachers can incorporate collaboration and teamwork into their classes
3. Students have another way to prepare for tests
