专项技能训练(7)
(Text 1)
W: Just imagine! We have to finish reading 300 pages before Monday!
M: Yeah. How can the professor expect us to read that much in such a short time?
(Text 2)
M: You look worried. What’s wrong?
W: I’ve been looking for a book in the library for days, but I can’t find it.
M: Why not try the university bookstore?
(Text 3)
M: Do you think I could borrow your car to drive to the supermarket? I’d be happy to pick up
anything you need.
W: Thanks, but I actually need quite a lot. Why don’t we go together?
M: That would be great!

(Text 4)
W: Look at the house! I can’t believe my eyes.
M: Forgive the mess in here. We had a party last night. There were a lot of people and they all
brought food.
(Text 5)
M: What time would suit you for the first round of talks with Mr Green?
W: Well, you know my schedule. It’s already Tuesday, and I don’t have any time on Wednesday or
Friday, so that leaves just one day.
(Text 6)
W: What are you reading, Ted?
M: A biography of Mo’ne Davis.
W: Who is Mo’ne Davis? Is she an actress?
M: No. She made history on August 15 last year when she became the first girl to throw a perfect
game in a Little League World Series. She was only thirteen years old then.
W: So she is just fourteen years old and she’s already written a book about her life?
M: Yeah, and — even harder to believe — she’s designing a line of sneakers that will be on store
shelves in June, and now the Disney Channel is making a movie about her life.
(Text 7)
M: It seems you really love Jane Austen’s books.
W: Yes. I’ve almost finished reading all of her books, and I’ve read Pride and Prejudice several
times. It’s my favorite book.
M: Since you love Jane Austen’s books so much, have you ever visited Winchester?
W: Oh, yes. I visited Winchester Cathedral last summer, where she was buried. Have you been
there before?
M: No. I just knew she was buried there. So what is Winchester like? Did you have a good time
there?
W: Yes. Winchester is a lovely city with a lot of green space and the best preserved medieval
great hall in the UK, I think.
M: Did you visit the great hall?
W: Yes, and I also climbed St. Giles Hill, which lies at the south end of the city. It has
breathtaking views of the city.
M: How did you get to Winchester?
W: By train. Return tickets are about £22 from London Waterloo.
(Text 8)
W: Hi, Henry.
M: Hi. Do I know you?
W: I’m Brandi Victorian. We went to college together. Remember me?
M: Oh, yes, but look at you. You must have lost a lot of weight.
W: You’re right. I weighed about 170 pounds back then. I’ve lost 54 pounds since then.
M: That’s amazing. How did you do it?
W: I tried several ways, and the one that worked best was just to eat less. My doctor told me that
about 3,500 calories equals one pound, so if I wanted to lose one pound per week, I had to give
up about 3,500 calories per week.
M: It means eating about 500 calories less per day.

3
W: Right, but I wanted to lose about 2.5 pounds per week. So I actually ate about 1,250 calories
less per day than I used to.
M: Wow — then you ate very little every day. You were really determined.
W: Well, I had no choice. I had to lose weight in order to find a good job.
M: So have you found a good one?
W: Yes. Now I’m working in a large company.
(Text 9)
M: Hi, Lisa. Would you like to go and watch Cinderella with me tonight?
W: Cinderella? Why do you want to see that? Isn’t that an old cartoon?
M: No. It’s a new movie. It is a remake of the 1950 cartoon with real actors. So far it has been
very popular.
W: Who plays Cinderella?
M: Lily James. She’d originally wanted to play the role of an evil stepsister. However, after seeing
her performance, Kenneth Branagh thought she was the perfect choice for Cinderella.
W: Who is Kenneth Branagh?
M: He directed the movie. He said that he’d always wanted to retell the story since the time he
was very young.
W: So is the story different from the original one?
M: The new movie stays true to the classic fairy tale, but it has a fresh look.
W: What does that mean?
M: Well, it doesn’t have any songs, the Fairy Godmother’s dress has LED lights, Cinderella’s
dress has real diamonds, and the glass slippers are made of real crystal.
W: Ooh, that sounds exciting. I really want to go and see it with you, but I have a math test
tomorrow. Let’s go and watch it this weekend.
(Text 10)
It happened when I was 12 years old. One day, I had just finished a Mountain Dew. It was my
first love, and I drank it whenever I was thirsty. That day, my mom called me to the kitchen for
dinner, so I stood up to make my way across the living room. It was then that everything got dark,
and I suddenly felt nothing. I woke up in the hospital, where the doctor told me that I had to
completely stop drinking Mountain Dew and all other sodas. He said I had to drink only water.
When I say I drank a lot of Mountain Dew, I really mean it was almost the only thing I drank.
For several months of my childhood, I had unlimited access to Mountain Dew. I drank it whenever
I was thirsty. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d had a drink of water. It had been months.
It was that extreme experience that taught me just how much drinking soda can harm
children’s health. That’s why I was delighted recently to learn that several fast-food chains had
dropped soda from their kids’ menus. It’s a small step, but at least it’s progressing toward
preventing childhood obesity and any number of other problems that can arise from drinking too
much soda.
