专项技能训练(9)
(Text 1)
M: Mr Green suggested I get a tutor for math.
W: Well, that might help, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I can help you after school.
(Text 2)
W: Bill, have you heard the good news? You won’t be laid off after all.
M: Oh, I’m somewhat tired of working here. Even if they don’t lay me off, I want to resign.
W: Oh, I thought you’d be happy to hear the news.
(Text 3)
W: I heard you lost all your money while taking a vacation in America. What did you do?
M: I sold my watch and then worked at a job till I could afford a return plane ticket.
(Text 4)
W: There were about sixty people at Lisa’s wedding. I can’t believe she’s got so many friends!
M: Not all of them are her friends. About two thirds of them were her colleagues and the rest were
her friends.
(Text 5)
M: What about going to the beach now?

2
W: The heat is simply unbearable here, so why not?
M: Then let’s get going. I’m sure we’ll have great fun there in this weather.
(Text 6)
W: Ted, I heard you’re taking a computer course now. When is the class?
M: It’s every Thursday evening from 7 to 10.
W: The class is just once a week?
M: No. It also meets every Saturday afternoon, but the class on Saturday is one hour shorter than
that on Thursday.
W: How many weeks will the course last?
M: It’s about ten weeks total. It began in July and will end in September. It sounds like you’re
interested in the course. Do you want to take it, too?
W: Yeah, I would. I know nothing about computers, so I’d really like to learn some basic things
about computers.
(Text 7)
W: How do you like your job, Henry?
M: The pay is really satisfying, but I’m often under a lot of pressure at work.
W: So what do you usually do to deal with the stress?
M: I usually don’t do any work-related things after work. I generally go to the gym or go for a run
in the park near my apartment, and then I go home and cook dinner for myself. I never eat out
after work, because I like cooking, and doing things that I enjoy really helps me relax.
W: Do you think you might have to change your job because of the high stress?
M: Well, actually, I had considered leaving my job due to stress-related factors, but later I talked
to a very successful woman, who told me stress is a good thing. It can help us succeed if we
use it the right way, so I changed my mind.
(Text 8)
M: What are you reading, Lucy?
W: An article about healthy eating. Can you believe this? In the US, adults now get about 11 to
15% of their calories from added sugar.
M: That’s really a lot. I guess American kids consume even more sugar than that.
W: You’re right. Added sugar can account for up to 16% of their calories.
M: Do people in European countries consume that much sugar, too?
W: It depends. For adults in Hungary and Norway, it is about 7%. In Spain and the United
Kingdom, sugar makes up as much as 17% of adults’ diets.
M: How about the children in Europe? Do they also consume more sugar than adults?
W: Yes. The WHO reports that for children in Europe, sugar intake can be much higher than
adults’, ranging from about 12% in Denmark, Slovenia and Sweden, to nearly 25% in
Portugal.
M: 25% in Portugal? Wow! That’s really unhealthy.
W: Yes. Do you like eating sweet food?
M: No. I hardly ever eat sweet things. I like fried food, but my parents always tell me to eat more
fruit and vegetables.
W: Well, I think your parents are right.
(Text 9)
M: It’s already March 25. I’m so happy! I’ll be able to watch that new movie the day after

3
tomorrow.
W: Why not go to watch it tonight?
M: It won’t be on until the day after tomorrow.
W: What movie is it?
M: It’s called Home. It’s about a group of aliens that invade the earth and decide to take over the
planet.
W: Oh, I think movies like that are scary. War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise was really
frightening. I didn’t like it at all.
M: Oh, no. This is a very fun cartoon. It’s meant for the whole family to watch together, just like
The Croods.
W: Really? Ah, that’s good. I liked The Croods.
M: Yeah, the movie Home is directed by Tim Johnson, who based it on the book The True
Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex. Tim Johnson thought the story would be perfect for a
cartoon.
W: So who’s main character in the movie?
M: It’s an alien called Oh. Oh forms a friendship with a girl named Tip, and they have many
interesting adventures together.
W: Well, now I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

Windsor Castle has been the home of kings and queens for over 1,000 years, making it the
oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. Windsor is a great destination if you want to see
some of the great treasures from British history and wander through the rooms the Royal Family
sometimes lives in! The apartments are open between late September and late March, so plan your
visit around that time to make the most of your Windsor Castle experience. After touring the
castle, walk around the town of Windsor and grab some lunch at one of the pubs across from the
castle itself. Return tickets to Windsor and Eton Central Station from London Paddington range
from £6.85 to £10.40 depending on when you leave. The great news is your castle ticket, which is
£17.50, can be used as a year-long ticket. Just check the website before you go to make sure that
the castle is open!
