Media convergence is the combination of the different kinds of media. It is

a platform wherein a single type of media combines with a another type of
media. An example of this would be accessing both traditional media
(newspapers, books, and radios) and new media (computers, laptops, and
smartphones).

Traditional media is media used before digitization, while new media is a

means of mass communication through the use of digital technologies such as
the internet.

Convergent media is the innovation that merges multiple types of media,

such as traditional media, digital media, new media to ultimately transform
into mass media.

I would classify convergent media under the categories of new media since
convergent media is distinct in its difference to traditional or old media.
Convergent media is achieved through the tools of new media. For example, a
smartphone can be used to access newspapers, newscasts, and movies via the
internet. Since the smartphone is under the category of new media, by
utilizing the phone to do this, we achieve media convergence.

Due to recent technological advancements, more and more people have

become adept at learning how to use new media. Smart phones are the most
common medium to access the internet due to it’s affordable price and easy to
carry since it fits right into our pockets.

Another aspect of advancement we have achieved is strides in social

media. Social media has become the most common avenue for social
interactions, especially during this pandemic. Social media has paved the way
for aspiring individuals who are keen to achieve fame and fortune.

Through social media, people can upload written and and non-written
works. Which is why modern day marketing is centered around social media
platforms. A brand or product chooses their model or ambassador in terms of
his or her social media following. A larger following means more people will
take notice of their products.

The evolution of communication has been linear. Originating from orality

going to literacy and then traditional media progressing to new media and
ultimately becoming media convergence. Literacy is now interlinked with
digital or new media. Communication is now done electronically, in the forms
of videocall, chatting, and text messaging.

There are instances wherein people seem to go to extreme lengths to

achieve notoriety. There are times where misinformation can be spread and
online bullying and harassment is experienced through malicious comments,
messages, and posts.

More and more people seem to upload a significant amount of their
information online. This can lead to phishing and identity thefts. We should
be careful in what we do or post online. A lot of people have lost their
reputation due to an error, may it be intention or unintentional, online.
