ISSUE AND CHALLENGES IN VDP
(GENERAL AND SECTORAL ISSUE)

• Lack of staff to attend the training (size of the company too small)
• High competition from international manufacturers
• Lack of creative innovator for medical device and pharmaceutical
• Malaysian not able to produce diversified raw material like China
• Manufacturers in Malaysia are producing same product, lack of diversity and innovation
• Not enough fund to attend trainings or to invest for new invention
• Price quote by the bumi vendors sometimes expensive than non-bumi vendors
OUTCOME (A)

• To increase number of Global, Regional and National Champion

• To focus on quality of vendors instead of number of vendors
• Create incentives for Malaysian talent to contribute in local scene rather than letting them serving
international companies for than 7 years
• Create more opportunity for SME or start-up vendors to attend training or any capacity building
programs as some of good trainings would cost them a lot
• Create a database or portal where vendors can reach out to other-sector vendors and collaborate
to achieve goals together
OUTCOME (B)

• To increase number of local / bumi vendor in sub-sector

• Create awareness on business opportunities for sub-sectors
• Guide the new starter in business in terms of management and also the strategic planning
OUTCOME (C)

• To decrease the gaps (please refer question 3)

• Secure great talents from their early professional stage to contribute in Malaysia’s scene
• Vendors need encouragement to adopt technologies from international companies, incentive to
adopt and improvise the technologies rather than adopt but no dynamics to it
• Market penetration among the Medium sized vendors are quite great, but for the small size vendors
they might have difficulty as marketing and branding will take up some chunk in their revenue. To
create a platform where small size vendors can publicize their company/product to public
• Provide assistance in terms of cash for the small vendor to develop their business and promote
their company
