Chapel Message

Dr. MacArthur Chapel Message was very confronting and needed in my life. When I had

the opportunity of teaching about Church Discipline, I only used Matthew 18, which brings a lot

of these steps. But to include Galatians 6:1 is a must now that I heard this message.

Dr. MacArthur explains briefly but thoroughly how necessary purification is in the life of

a believer. To them show us how all Christians have a responsibility to eliminate sin both

individually and corporally. Still, it is vital to respect this order. "Concern about your purity takes

away abusiveness; without it, you become a sickening pious" To describe what a sickening

pious is, Dr. MacArthur used the example of the Pharisees that brought the sinful lady before

Jesus. Here, we see the reaction of someone who truly is spiritual; we need to be humble and

meek against other people's sins, but confronting and clear about the danger people are when

they indulge with it. To this, Dr. MacArthur sets forth 3 principles.

First, we need to pick up the person that has fallen into sin. To do this, we need to first

be spiritual people, just as the text calls us before commanding us to restore anybody. Spiritual

people walk in obedience to the spirit, which reveals its ordinances through the word of God. At

this moment, we would have the wisdom and authority to truly restore somebody in the body

of Christ. We need to help them see their sin, help them admit their sin to God, and guide them

to turn away from it.

Secondly, we need to bear one another burdens. We need to nurture and disciple those

we pick up. We cannot pick up somebody and just let them be, the burden of sin is heavy, and

people would fall again under that burden. We need to restore them by involving in their life
and being there for them. We need to set up accountability; we need to confess our sins to one

another with this purpose. People need to remember always that sin is something that needs to

be eradicated.

Thirdly and last, we need to build them up. We need to be ready with the word of God

to restore them and help them walk again on the straight holy path. Restoration is just like any

type of therapy. A person needs to learn again to become independent without our help.

Meanwhile, we need to be there for those that we can help. It is a joy and responsibility for us

to restore people in the body of Christ.
