SOCIAL MEDIA IS A MANIPULATIVE GIZMO IN THE ERA OF CHANGES IN TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN THE

WORLD. INDIA, BEING A DEVELOPING COUNTRY IS FACING QUITE LOT ADVANCEMENTS IN ALL THE FIELDS SPECIFYING
LEGAL, SOCIAL AS WELL AS ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF THE COUNTRY. SOCIAL MEDIA ACTS AS THE EASIEST ACCESSIBLE
TOOL IN THIS ERA. SOCIAL MEDIA WORKS AS A FORCE WHICH CAROUSES WITH ONE’S MIND INTO BELIEVING THAT
WHATEVER PASSES ONTO THE PLATFROM LIES TRUE IN ITS SENSES.

SOCIAL MEDIA, LIKE CORONA VIRUS IS A CONTAGIOUS PLATFOM THAT IS PERTAINING IN THE ROOTS OF THE COUNTRY
AND SPREADING TO EACH AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL NON-CONSIDERING AGE GROUPS OR INCOME STATUS OF THE
PERSON. NOWADAYS, WITH THE EASE OF INTERNET EVEN TO SMALL VILLAGES INDIA STOOD AT 326.1 MILLION SOCIAL
MEDIA USERS IN THE YEAR 2018. ALSO THE USERS EXPECTED AT THE END OF 2023 ARE 448 MILLION. THE HYSTERIC
OUTBREAK IN THE COUNTRY AFFECTS THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE MANIFOLD AND HAS MADE THEM PART OF A
BANDWAGON WHICH GOES ON AND ON. EACH AND EVERY ASPECT OF LIFE REVOLVES AROUD THE SOCIAL MEDIA, BE IT
EARNING, SPENDING OR EVEN ENJOYING OUR DAILYLIVES. PEOPLE RUN THEIR BUSINESSES GLOBALLY, INFLUENCE A
LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE INTO CERTAIN TRENDS, FOLLOW THEIR ROLE MODELS, OR MORE SPECIFICALLY, EVEN
GROW THEIR MINDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THE FIGURES PRESENTED PAINTS A VERY ROSY PICTURE OF PEOPLE OF INDIA
BEAUTIFULLY TURNING THEMSELVES INTO NET JUNKIES AND HENCE GOVERNMENT OF THE COUNTRY ALONG WITH THE
MASS FOLLOWED POLITICAL LEADERS TOOK THE INTERNET ROUTE TO SPREAD INFORMATION, AWARENESS OR EVEN
PROMOTING ONESELF CONSIDERING THE OVERSALL USAGE OF THE PLATFORMS WHERE INFORMATIONS AND FEELINGS
SPREADS LIKE A FIRE WITH A CLICK MAKING IT EASY TO PLAY WITH PEOPLE’S MINDS.

SOCIAL MEDIA AS METAPHORICALLY SAID, EACH COIN HAS TWO SIDES AND STICKING TO THE DEVIL SIDE OF THE STORY
IS WHAT A MIND FINDS EASY IN THIS ERA. MEDIA LIKE A ZOMBIE OUTBREAK CONVINCES PEOPLE TO DO THINGS WHICH
THEY DO NOT FIND RIGHT IN THEIR SUB CONSCIOUS PIECE OF MINDS OR EVEN WHICH SUCKS THE BLOOD OF
HAPPINESS OUT THEM.

LEGAL BOUNDATIONS OF THE PLATFORM HOP AROUND THE INFORMATION AND TECHNOLOGY ACT WHICH WAS
INACTED IN THE YEAR 2000. IT WAS AN ESSENTIAL STEP TOWARDS REGULATING THE PROBLEMS AND CONFLICTS
STEMMING OUT DUE TO THE USAGE OF THE PLATFORM. THE MOST CONFLICTING LAW REVOLVES AROUND ARTICLE
19(1)(a) OF THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION WHICH PROVIDES “RIGHT TO FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION” TO ALL
ITS CITIZENS. HOEVER IT IS TO BE KEPT IN MIND THAT "Freedom of speech doesn't justify online bullying. Words have
power be careful how you use them"

AS Advocate Sumit Batra says, “Though no law can ever completely insulate the users of social media and networking
from the issues or problems cropping out of technological advances, some basic guiding principles can take care of a lot
many issues. While it is permissible to create, transmit and circulate news or information in social media, the big
question that often arises has to do with a personal sense of discretion — something might be offensive for me but not
offensive for others.” THEREFORE, IT IS TO BE SEEN THAT LAW IN THIS FIELD IS AT A NASCENT STAGE AND THAT IT’S
EVOLVEMENT WOULD TAKE TIME WITH THE RECURRENT EVENTS HAPPENING IN THE FORSEABLE FUTURE.

Social media can increase happiness and nurture an individual's social circle... But depending on who he is, social media
can potentially also make him unhappy and more isolated.

Social media was initially used for contacting and connecting to people living around the globe, but now the definition
has totally changed. Now it has become a platform where people develop new skills, cultivate and polish the already
existing one's and showcase their talents. It lets people share fun, informative and interesting content.

It gives businesses a way to engage with costumers. This isn't it, social media has now became a platform for peaceful
protests. There are so many incident where its seen that when even the security departments of our country were
unable to seek justice for a person. It was the youth who made it possible by running diffrent campaigns, by trending
"hastags". Social media has given a platform to every person to put up his ideology about something.
We all know what "fake news" means. This term may not seem new, but now the platform used for it is the only new
thing about it. Propaganda has been around for centuries, and social media is only the latest means of communication
to be abused to spread lies and misinformation. People with ill mentality use this platform to spread rumours which in
turn will defame or ruin the other person's life completely, one such incident happened popularly knows as "The boys
locker room" in which a group of boys was alleged to plan a assault on a girl, the screenshots of the chat went viral and
those boys were questioned over their character and values, they were even arrested and were in police custody foe
several days, later on investigation it was concluded that this conversation isn’t a part of the Bois locker room group,
which was a series of conversation on Instagram. It was even found that found out that it was a girl who posed as a boy
to layout a sexual assault plan, only to check the “values and character” of the boy she was chatting with.

This isn't the only incident, one more such incident took place on 16th april, 2020 where 2 sadhus were brutally lynches
by a mob of violent individuals. The incident was fuelled by WhatsApp rumours of thieves operating in the area during
the countrywide corona virus lockdown.

It caused two innocent their lives.
