Music Manager - Requirements
A good general manager should be responsible, strategic, and can get along well
with others. Meaning, they need to have strong leadership, negotiation, and
communication skills.

Although a degree isn’t extremely necessary to become a manager, it would be


beneficial for music managers to at least have a degree in marketing and/or
management. Communications and business could be possible majors as well. Having
a degree shows your employers that you are adequately prepared for the job so it will
increase your chances of employment.
Music Managers - Descriptions
A job in a major label and a job at an indie label can be very different. Working
with a larger company usually means having a tight-knit schedule as well as more pay.
A much smaller label would give you more freedom with your career.
General music managers do a bit of everything, once contracted, they need to
work well other staff members and as well as the client. General managers take care of
contracts ensuring the best deals. They also make sure that their clients are in good
shape/healthy. Most of the time, music managers travel with their clients so they could
be there to support them while doing other things like writing up contracts, marketing
strategies, etc.
Managers don’t usually expect to be working for a label long term. Once the
contract expires, you either renew it or find another opportunity.
Music Manager - Salary
The average annual salary of a general music manager can be around
$68,574.

The annual salary range is between $37,000 and $128,000 depending on


the area and work experience. The company/singer(s) the manager works for
will also affect their salary.

Audio Engineer - Requirements
The most basic requirement needed to be an audio engineer is a high school
diploma. Regardless, employers would prefer the workers to have postsecondary
education on the profession from colleges or technical schools.

Experience is also important, certification can enhance job aspects as it certifies


the engineers’ skills. Particular skills like communication skills are vital as engineers
need to know the specific requirements of their clients.

Technical skills are just as important as the engineers have to work with multiple
types of equipment.
Audio Engineer - Descriptions
An audio engineer works with producers and musicians to provide the best
sounds for live performances and videos. They use specialized devices such as
converters, digital audio workstation (DAW), mixing consoles, microphones, etc.

They record, edit, and mix audio tracks by reducing unwanted sounds and
enhance sound qualities. The technicians also set up and test sound equipment before
events. Some audio engineers repairs and fix equipment when needed.

An audio engineer is necessary for all types of music. The only limit to an
engineer’s career is their health, specifically, their sense of hearing.
Audio Engineer - Salary
The national average annual salary for an audio engineer is $25,269 or $12.15 an
hour. It can go up to $112,095 or $53.89 an hour for top audio engineers.

Like most careers, including label management, your salary will increase if you
have more experience and/or work for better labels. The location you work is also
important.
