Sejarah dari dislipidemia

Dyslipidemia is elevated total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol,

or triglycerides; low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol; or a combination of

these abnormalities (1). According to the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates in2008, the
prevalence of dyslipidemia (defined as blood levels ofTC>5 mmol/L [190 mg/dL]) in the Southeast
Asia (30.3%) and theWestern Pacific (36.7%) were much lower than that in the Europe(53.7%) and
the Americas (47.7%) (2). Dyslipidemia has been clearly identified as an important major risk factor
for cardiovascular diseases that are the first cause of death in the developed and developing
countries [2]. The World Health Organization recently reported that dyslipidemia is significantly
associated with more than half of global cases of ischemic heart disease [3]. In fact, dyslipidemia is
not a single primary phenomenon, but is a broad term that refers to inappropriate diet and lifestyle,
as well as some genetic susceptibilities (3).

Etiologic / faktor resiko dislipidemia

The body requires cholesterol for normal functioning, however,

increased cholesterol may put individuals at risk for cardiovascular

disease.

Relative risk for developing dyslipidemia multiplies with the

number of risk factors present.

Risk factors for Dyslipidemia:

• Men who are 40 years of age or more

• Women who are postmenopausal or over 50 years of age

• Familial hypercholesterolemia
• Diabetes

• Hypertension

• Smoking

• Abdominal obesity

• Strong family history of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD)

• Manifestations of hypercholesterolemia

• Evidence of symptomatic or asymptomatic atherosclerosis
