Academic Interest and Expectation to Obtain from the Program
Juwita Sasi Maulidya,
Master of Mining Engineering student, Bandung Institute of Technology, juwitasasimaulidya@gmail.com
My academic background is mining engineering, I just graduated from mining engineering
this July 2020 and join fast track postgraduate program on Bandung Institute of Technology which allow me to take some of postgraduate credits while I’m still being bachelor degree student. I’m currently being Master of Mining Engineering student at Bandung Institute of Technology with specific field of Geomechanics Engineering. I’m choosing Geomechanics Engineering because geomechanics is one of the most important aspects on mining design (stage and phase of mine, volume control for every stage and phase, factor of safety) and mining activities (monitoring), not only for the advancement of mine but also for safety to the people who work on the mining area. At the end of mine, good resource and reserve balance conditions (depends on supply and demand, country needs, geotechnics, technology, etc.) are needed to ensure the sustainability of resources development and energy security for the country. The shape of the final mine is not only influenced by the ultimate pit limit designed by mine planner engineering, but it also depends on the development from every stage and phase of mining development. Besides of having concern on the volume of overburden and ore that have to be mining on every stage until the end of mine and leaving some ore to be resources with final design of the mine (ultimate pit limit), mine planners have to collaborate with geotechnics and geomechanics engineer to make sure that mine pit or tunnels (for underground mining) have always stable during mining activities so it can be running smoothly until the end of mine, or even more (depending on their reclamation and post- mining plan) with the absence of accident due to design to make the shape of final mine as planned before so that occurs good resource and reserve balance conditions to ensure the sustainability of resource development and energy security for the country. By participating in this program, I hope I can gain new experience and knowledge about mining in another country, especially the application of geomechanics to solve problems on the field through lectures from Akita University, discussion session during the program, and exchange many ideas with other participances. I also want to make new friends from various countries, and develop my basic skills in analytical method for my master’s thesis from another country’s perspective aside of my country, especially Japan. And I hope that I can apply the knowledge I get from this program not only to develop my research for my master’s thesis project but it can also be applied for my country to ensure the sustainability of resource development and energy security for my country.
