2.4 Summary
Limit state design philosophy takes into account the statistical nature of

loads and material strengths, there by providing consistent levels of safety. Its

also considers the other requirements such as serviceability and durability. The

IS 800-2005(Draft) code advocates limit state design. However, it is the

responsibility of the designer to ensure that the structure does not collapse or

become unserviceable due to any reason.
