FIFA

FIFA is the international governing body of association football, fú tsal and beach soccer. It
is the highest governing body of football. The headquarters of FIFA is located in Zü rich,
Switzerland. FIFA is the organisation that gave birth to one of the most popular
tournaments this world has ever seen, the FIFA World Cup.

Founded in Paris, France in 1904, FIFA's duty was to oversee international competition
among the national associations of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands,
Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. However, as FIFA and football, in general, became more
popular, more national associations pledged their allegiance to FIFA. It now comprises 211
national associations. These national associations must be a member of the six
confederations the world is divided into, which are Africa, Asia, Europe, North & Central
America and the Caribbean, Oceania, and South America. Nowadays, FIFA's job is to point
out several objectives to help football grow internationally; provide efforts to ensure it is
accessible to everyone, and promote fair play. FIFA organises and promotes football's
major international tournaments, notably the World Cup, as stated before. The FIFA World
Cup commenced in 1930 and the Women's World Cup commenced in 1991. FIFA is
responsible for the application and enforcement of the rules across all FIFA competitions;
however, FIFA does not solely set the rules. The International Football Association Board,
which FIFA is a member of, sets the rules of the games. Though FIFA has faced its fair share
of allegations of corruption, bribery and many more such crimes, it was and still is going
strong. An example of that is the previous World Cup, which took place in 2018. It is
estimated that FIFA generated revenues of more than US $4 billion. That shows just how
big FIFA is.

Football is frequently described as something larger than life; therefore, FIFA does not only
oversee football, it looks over something greater than life. FIFA is often referred to as the
'United Nations of Football' because, like the United Nations, it keeps people, countries and
organisations together.
