Planning Resource Breakdown Structure
Billing Resource Breakdown Structure
• Use a billing resource breakdown structure to manage billing
controls.
• Billing specialists or contract administrators select billing controls
for a contract or contract line to define the valid transaction
dates, billing resources, and amount limits for transactions
associated with the contract.
• Two predefined billing resource breakdown structures:
• Control Billing: Provides a list of resources you can reference when creating
billing controls on regular contracts.
• Control Intercompany Billing: Provides a list of resources you can reference
when creating billing controls on intercompany and inter-project contracts.

You cannot create or delete these billing resource breakdown structures. You can edit the resource formats and specify the associated billing resources to meet
the needs of your enterprise.

Project Plan Types
Overview

Overview
• Create project plan types to define default information
used when:
• creating a project plan
• capturing progress
• Associate one project plan type to a project template.
• Projects created using the template inherit setup and
planning option values.
• Revise setup or planning options at each level to match
specific planning requirements.

Project Plan Types
Setup Options

Setup
• Will project managers enter amounts in multiple
currencies?
• Will project managers perform scheduling activities in an
external scheduling application?

Project Plan Types
Planning Options
Option Description
Set Assignments Assign reference data sets to determine how a financial plan is shared across the enterprise

Plan Settings Define amount types included in version, planning level, and how periods are entered and
displayed
Task Settings Decide how task and task assignment dates are entered and calculated

Currency Settings Define attributes for converting transaction currency amounts to project and project ledger
currencies
Rate Settings Define sources of rates for planning resources
Progress Settings Decide how physical percent complete, Estimate to Complete, and other progress values are
calculated
Budget Generation Options Define are versions are generated from another source
Additional Information Capture custom information using descriptive flexfields

Project Plan Types
Planning Options

Plan Settings
• Enable cost for project plan: Used if you intend to plan costs on
tasks and task assignments. If not enabled then physical percent
complete values are calculated based only on effort.
• Calendar Type: Plan by period (accounting or project accounting)
or plan duration of resource assignment.
• Period Profile: Display amounts planned by period into summary
groupings, where appropriate.

Project Plan Types
Planning Options

Task Settings
• Use task planned dates as task assignment dates: Controls
whether resources on tasks can have different dates than the task
dates.
• Automatically roll up task planned dates: Determine if planned
dates for lowest-level tasks roll up to summary tasks. If you select this
option, then summary task dates are not editable.
Note: Planned date options are disabled if you decide to use third-
party scheduling.
• Synchronize task transaction dates with planned dates: Uses the
planning dates to determine when a task can be charged to with a
buffer.
• Specify a date adjustment buffer: Specify a Lag (positive) or lead
(negative) time between task planned dates and task transaction
dates.

Currency Settings (Applicable when planning in multiple
currencies):
• Define the Transaction Currencies and the conversion attributes
for the Project Currency and Project Ledger Currency

Rate Settings
• Assign Business Units
• Select Use planning rates to specify which rate schedules you
want to use

Progress Settings
• Physical Percent Complete Calculation Method:
Cost, Effort, or Manual Entry. Selecting Cost or Effort automatically
calculates Physical Percent Complete as Actual Amount / Estimate at
Complete (EAC) Amount * 100. Manual uses progress from prior
progress cycle
• ETC Method:
Remaining Plan, or Manual. Remaining Plan uses the formula: ETC
Cost = Current Planned Cost – Actual Cost.
• Allow negative ETC calculation:
If actual amounts are greater than the plan, and you are using the
Remaining plan ETC method, this allows the calculation and display of
negative ETC amounts.

Project Plan Types
Planning Options

Progress Settings
• Update planned quantity with EAC quantity
Decide whether to update the project plan (planned quantity)
using the progress update i.e. changing the plan based on the
latest progress/estimate.
• Automatically generate forecast version:
As part of publication of progress you can also automatically
generate a Forecast.
• Primary Physical Percent Complete Basis
Determines whether the rolled-up physical percent complete for
summary tasks is based on cost or effort. This physical percent
complete value is used in project forecasting, reporting, and
revenue generation

Budget Generation Options

• Generate budget version when setting baseline for project plan
Indicate whether a budget version will be created as part of the
project plan baseline process
• Automatically designate budget version as baseline
Decide whether the budget version will be set as the current
baseline version.

Project Templates
Overview

Project Templates
Project templates enable you to quickly create projects that share common
features, attributes, and options.
Projects created from a project template or another project inherit the
attributes from the source project template or project as follows:
• Always copied: Resource breakdown structures, currency conversion
attributes, and KPI’s are automatically copied to the new project.
• Optionally copied: Select certain attributes, including tasks and task
assignments, to copy to the new project.
• Copied if not overridden in project details: Project attributes such as team
members, and class categories and codes are not copied if you can specify
them in the project details for the new project.
• Not copied: Transactions and project progress are never copied.

Define Project Template

Define Project Template Details

• Business Unit: To which the project template and projects belong. The business unit determines
the options available for selection such as rates and rate schedules.

• Project Unit: Determines the options available for selection such as project and financial plan
types, and planning resource breakdown structures.

• Project-owning Organization: The organization that will own projects created from this
template; list of organizations is filtered using the specified business unit and project unit.

• Legal Entity: Defaulted to the legal entity associated with specified business unit; you can
select a different legal entity.

• Project Type: Determines options for projects created from this template to inherit.

• Initial Project Status: Define initial status for projects created from this template.

• From and To Dates: The beginning and end of the date range when the project template is
available to use.

• Project Space Template: This is the basis for automatically created project spaces for projects
created from this template.

indicate if the project creation process copies:
• Team Members on the project or project task.
• Attachments on the project or project task.
• Descriptive flexfields on the project or project task.
• Project space template.
• Specific project plan information such as project tasks and task
assignments, including resource types.
• Financial plans, transaction controls, and costing overrides.

Quick Entry Fields

Quick entry fields let you designate attributes to enter on a
project that is created from a template.
• Quick entries are flexible
• They can be optional or required
• Organization is a required field for all new projects

• Is the project going to be used to create task assignments,
planning amounts, and capture progress, or just for costing and
billing?
