No they are not the same. 7 – 5 means that we start at the number 7 and take away 5. 5 – 7 means that we start at 5 and take away 7. Or using an example: if I have 7 pencils, then I can take away 5 of them leaving me with 2 left. But if I only have 5 pencils, I cannot take away 7 of them.
