Past continuous Tense: Sub+[ was / were + V4]+O/A

Past continuous is used for an action that was going on at some point of time in
the Past.

1. I was waiting at the bus stop yesterday at this time.


2. The children were playing in the park, in the evening yesterday.
3. We were watching TV in the afternoon.
4. The University students were agitating for separate Telengana 5 years
back.
5. I was sleeping.
6. We were sitting outside and gossiping in the evening.
7. People were drenching all of a sudden in the rain yesterday.

As a starter of a narration.

1. I was travelling by train yesterday………

3. My pregnant sister was resting in the afternoon………
4. When it was raining my friends were in the park.
5. The CM was addressing a rally during the elections…….

In combination with simple past.

1. I was watching the TV, when the power failed.


2. I was going to college when I saw an accident.
3. My mom was preparing the dinner when the guests arrived.
4. We were studying when my dad came from office.
5. The last batsman was out while we were playing the last over.

Future continuous tense: Sub+ [will be + V4] + O/A

Is used for an action that will be going on at some point of time in the future.
Excitement and anticipation are involved when we use this tense.

We will be shifting to our own newly constructed house next week.


My sister will be delivering a baby in the next few hours.

My brother will be going to the US for his higher studies next month.

I will be meeting my uncle this Sunday.

I will be attending my friends marriage this Sunday.

My family and will be going for dinner tonight.
