Lectures in the summer semester 2021

Information for the upcoming summer semester 2021

The current Bavarian Ordinance on Infection Control (available in German only) does not allow
in-person classes at universities. A few exceptions apply under special hygiene measures. Given
the current situation, it is anticipated that the summer semester 2021 will run mostly digitally and
through distance learning. If the pandemic and legal circumstances change, in-person learning
may be extended over the course of the summer. This scenario will be scrutinized in close
cooperation with the faculties and - should the situation arise - implemented.

Compulsory Mask-wearing and measure for reducing contacts

It is compulsory to wear a medical face mask (surgical mask) or FFP2 mask at LMU, not only
when entering and leaving any lecture halls and conference rooms but also in all areas of LMU
buildings where people meet or come into contact with others. This applies in particular to
corridors, stairways, elevators and toilets. At the same time, masks are obligatory at face-to-face
classes - also for lecturers - even at one’s desk. Excepted from this are exams.

For teaching and examination events, a minimum area of 10 sqm must be available for each
person in the room. If this is not possible, equivalent protection of persons must be ensured by
suitable ventilation measures.

BAföG
In general, the Federal Ministry of Education is responsible for BAföG regulations.
Lectures in the summer semester 2021
The current Bavarian Ordinance on Infection Control (available in German only) does not allow
classroom teaching at universities (initially until April 18, 2021). Deviating from this, practical and
artistic training sections as well as events requiring special laboratory or work rooms at the
universities are permitted if it is ensured that a minimum distance of 1.5 m is maintained
between all participants. In such events, face masks are mandatory.

In case of such exceptions, the mandatory guidelines for infection control

("Rahmenhygienekonzept Universitäten" - available in German only) agreed upon between the
Bavarian universities, the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and the Arts, and the Bavarian State
Ministry for Health, as well as the regulations on infection control for practical courses (e.g.
laboratory work) provided by LMU must be observed for all face-to-face classes at the LMU. The
approval of face-to-face events in terms of the exceptions mentioned above is still granted by the
respective faculty.

For each practical or artistic course permitted by exception, contact details (name, email-
address) of the participants must be recorded. If the room or workstations are equipped with
appropriate QR codes,it is possible to use the contact data registration-system Darfichrein.de.
The data is stored in encrypted form in the data center of the Anstalt für kommunale
Datenverarbeitung in Bavaria and is only transmitted to the responsible health authorities at their
request, insofar as this is necessary for contact person identification. Otherwise, the data is
automatically deleted after one month. An attendance check is excluded. Further information on
data protection can be found at www.lmu.de/corona-checkin. It is also possible to provide
contact data by means of a paper form. It is obligatory to provide contact data.

For our teaching staff, LMU provides cumulated information on the broad range of technical
possibilities for online teaching at www.lmu.de/digitale-lehre. This offer of help and support
services takes up as well as complements already existing offers in the faculties. Please note
that the site can only be accessed with a corresponding LMU user ID.

Information on courses in the summer semester 2021 can also be obtained from your contact
persons in the subjects and faculties.

Upcoming Exams
In accordance with the Bavarian Infection Control Ordinance (BayIfSMV),in-person university
examinations are permitted in compliance with protective measures outlined in the BayIfSMV
whereby the mandatory guidelines for infection control ("Rahmenhygienekonzept Universitäten" -
must be observed. Otherwise, examinations are administered in an alternative form, for example
as online examinations.
Please refer to your contact persons in the departments, faculties, and examination offices for
further information on when and how an examination will be administered at LMU.

The summer semester 2020 the winter semester 2020/21 and the summer semester 2021 do
The summer semester 2020,the winter semester 2020/21, and the summer semester 2021 do
not count as regular „Fachsemester“ with respect to the regular dates and deadlines set out in
the in the examination and study regulations (PStO). The counting of the „Fachsemester“ will
continue in the summer semester 2020,the winter semester 2020/21, and the summer semester
2021 and beyond. However, for all students who were enrolled in the summer semester 2020, the
winter semester 2020/21 and/or the summer semester 2021 and who were not on leave of
absence, the semesters counted under examination law („Prüfungsfachsemester“ or „PFS“) are
one, two semesters, or three respectively less than the number of semesters stated in the
certificate of enrollment. For students who have reached their maximum examination period in
the summer semester 2020, thewinter semester 2020/21, or the summer semester 2021 the
legal consequence of the first-time or final failure will therefore only occur one, two,or three
semesters later. The regulation does not apply to the state examinations and the relevant
deadlines.

For our teaching staff, LMU provides information on online exams at www.lmu.de/digitale-
pruefungen. Please note that the site can only be accessed with a corresponding LMU user ID.

The organisation of state examinations (“Staatsexamen”) is not the responsibility of LMU, but of
the respective state ministries. Therefore, please refer to the websites of the responsible ministry
or the examination office they have appointed, for example:

· „Landesjustizprüfungamt“ for the „Juristischen Staatsprüfungen“: here.

· „Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Unterricht und Kultus“ for the „Staatsprüfungen für ein
Lehramt an öffentlichen Schulen“: here.

· „Regierung von Oberbayern“ via the Examination Office for Medicine of LMU for the state
examinations in medicine: here.

Events and meetings at LMU

Availability of central services (libraries, International O ce,

Student O ce, etc.)

As announced by the Bavarian State Government in the report from the cabinet meeting of 04
March 2021, libraries will be allowed to reopen from 08 March 2021 with a strict hygiene
concept. Therefore, as of Tuesday, March 16, 2021, we will again offer the familiar on-site
services at numerous UB locations (provision of reading and workstations, lending, scanning,
copying, etc.). Due to the relocation of the medical inventory, there are special arrangements for
the Central Textbook Collection and the subject library Medical Reading Hall.

Until and including March 15, 2021, the following applies to the collection of ordered media and
the return:

Libraries are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (exception is the Veterinary
Medicine Library with opening hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.).

Please note that it is mandatory that you order items you wish to borrow through the online
catalog by March 15, 2021; going to the shelves will remain prohibited until March 16, 2021.

FFP2 masks are mandatory throughout the library.

As of March 16, 2021, the following applies to borrowing and returning items:

Libraries will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (exception is the Veterinary

The following procedure applies to the use of reading/work space:

Reading and work spaces will be available for use again beginning March 16, 2021 (no group

An LMU user ID is required to make a reservation.

Reading and work spaces can be reserved for the hours of 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 6
p.m. Monday through Friday.

If you have booked a reading/work space for the morning only, please vacate the space
promptly at 1:30 pm. For infection control reasons, the maximum number of people allowed in
the library must not be exceeded, so please vacate the space in time for afternoon occupancy.
If you have also booked a reading/work space for the afternoon, you may use your space
during the lunch period (13:30-14:00).
8 periods per week can be reserved per person.

The extensive and broad range of electronic media (e-books, e-journals and databases) is still
available to LMU members with an LMU user ID, regardless of location and time.

The e-tutorials of the university library are also still available. These explain to you, for example,
how the use of e-media works (e-media login, Google Scholar) and which functions the literature
management programs Citavi and Endnote have.
Orders for the campus delivery service (for LMU scientists and doctoral students) and for the
scanning service for learning platforms (for LMU lecturers) will be possible again from
11.01.2021.
