RX + H2O → ROH + H+ + X−
1. 2-iodopropane is hydrolysed more quickly because the C—I bond is weaker
than the C—Br bond and so breaks more easily.
2. Hydrolysis involves the breaking of the C—X bond. As the C—F bond is
stronger than the C—Cl bond, the C— Cl bond needs less energy to break and
so breaks, while the C—F bond does not.
