1. Closed end molecules i.e. joined in a “circle” are called cyclic compounds. The nomenclature of cyclic compounds are similar to
those of open end molecules (straight chain and branched chain molecules), however the word cyclo becomes part of the parent
name. For example the molecule below is cyclobutane, otherwise all the IUPAC rules of open end alkanes apply to closed end
alkanes as well.
