Title: Application of Regional delineation to regionalize selected provinces to identify the

deprived regions in terms of education, health, infrastructure etc. facilities in Pakistan

Regional delineation is the first step in the preparation of any regional development plan to
ensure tentative operational area of planning. Within the planning region the frame of all
regional studies could be undertaken and development envisaged. Moreover, the exercise
helps planners to identify the most deprived regions in terms of poverty, infrastructure,
literacy etc.

The purpose of this assignment is to apply different techniques of regionalization for formal
and functional regions in the context of Pakistan. For this purpose, you are required to select
any province of your choice and perform regional delineation using Weighted Index Number
Method or factor analysis.

Describe the purpose of regionalization, use adequate indicators and relevant data from most
updated census. Finally, based on the evidences, identify the most deprived regions for future
planning interventions. Report your results with Maps and proper justifications.
